Gutting My PC

A few months ago my gaming computer’s motherboard burned out. I need a new one. I am planning on replacing everything but the case and the Nvidia 560 that I bough a month before the motherboard went tits up. So basically I need some recommendations on motherboard/processor/RAM/power supply combinations that work well with Nvidia products, with the possibility of going SLI again in the future.

That’s the hardware I’m currently using. Just pick out what you need. Also, there is an updated version of that mobo that is in stock. Just search for ASRock p67 and it should be the first one on the list.

Also, I know that I am using an AMD card, but that mobo works just as well with nVidia.

The issue is that a lot of the stuff on that list is outdated or out of stock. I’d go with a 3570K for the processor for more performance for a tiny bit more, and a Z77 motherboard.

Give me a budget.

Honestly, I’d pick a Sandy Bridge over an Ivy Bridge any day of the week. The minute performance boost isn’t worth it considering how much more prone those things are to overheating. Besides, Ivy Bridge was designed more with Ultrabooks in mind, not desktops.

Since I only laptops, I can’t help you much but our tech expert sersoft can give you his output.

It mostly depends on if he’s going to be overclocking a lot. With ivy bridge you can go for a 4.3-4.4 GHz OC and get about the same as a 4.5 on a sandy bridge.

Your budget would be useful for recommendations.

The i5 3570K would be a good shout
A Z77 motherboard from Asus, Gigabyte, MSI (make sure it supports SLI)
DDR3 - any 1.5v - OCZ/Corsair/Crucial etc
600W+ PSU from a quality brand like Antec, Corsair, OCZ, XFX, etc.

That should suit you nicely.

I don’t overclock.

I’m trying to keep it under $1000.

This will help.

Lists best hardware per tiers.

Yeah, I don’t know what I’m looking at when someone just links me to a site like that. If I knew what I was looking at I wouldn’t be asking for recommendations, I would be on NewEgg ordering parts already.

Power supply: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182133
RAM: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231461
Motherboard: Gigabyte or slightly cheaper Gigabyte.
CPU Choices: i7 3770 or i5 3550
TB hard drive if you want one: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148840

I’ve used the motherboard I listed in several builds and it has worked very well for the money.
For the CPU get the i5 if you’re mostly going to be gaming. Unless you’re doing rendering or video transcoding you won’t benefit much from the i7.

Ok so budget isn’t really an issue then considering what you are actually after  .

CPU - The i5 3570 or i7 3770 as amf66 says but again I would suggest going for the i5 unless you are doing something that will benefit from hyperthreading.
Motherboard - Asrock Z77 Extreme4
RAM - GeIL 8GB
PSU - The one amf66 suggested would be good

Good find on the RAM. I was lazy and didn’t see that cheaper 1600 set.
Look at my previous post for my own motherboard recommendations. Somehow the link wasn’t in the original post. The UD3H is the one that I’ve used several times and had no problems with. The ASRock that GuitarJim rec’d is good, but if you’re a sucker for USB 3.0 ports the second Gigabyte motherboard is $130 with two more USB 3.0 ports, and the UD3H is all USB 3.0 on the back. The main difference seems to be the lack of power/reset buttons and a debugging LCD on the board.
