GTX 550/60 cards

I don’t know shit about video cards, but I do know that I need an upgrade. My computer is prebuilt, and the card they stuck in it is a cheapo $35 Geforce 210. It does fine at tinier resolutions, but I crave higher

I need something that can get me around 30-40 FPS in modernish games running at 1920x1200 pixels.

I’ve only got about 200 bucks to blow here, and some kid recommended this kind of equipment.

Can anyone tell me from experience what these things are capable of, and what specific model you’re talking about? I want to see if I should just save up for something extreme or if these would cut it.

Should I post my full specs?

Full specs please.

Yes this would help give better recommendations.

Regardless, if the 200 is to spend on card alone, sure, 560 wil do nicely. If possible, go for the ASUS version as these come OCd from factory.

If you do get it… I suggest Getting an EVGA 560.

They have the best customer service when it comes to computer hardware today.

But please tell us your specs first.

I agree on this but eVGA is bound to be more expensive.

Here’s all I could specify

Win7 Home Premium 64-bit
AMD Athlon II X2 250 processor (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
4096MB RAM

Oh hello there, AMD 250.
I had an AMD 240e at 3.4 before I got my Phenom II X4 970 (running at 3.7)

Your 250 will probably bottleneck the 560.
(my 240 bottlenecked my 5770, and the nVIDIA 560 is faster)

So I should consider getting a better processor before anything else?

Well, you will get a huge difference with a quad core.

Yes but if he remains with a 210 games will still be shitty, so I would say go with the 560 for now, and even if it bottlenecks, games will be better than quad core +210 so in the future when you can upgrade your cpu

I can’t help but post a shameless plug, being Galaxy’s marketing guy. I’ve done some gaming on our GTX 550 Ti and I can tell you it will definitely handle new games if you don’t max out the settings or turn the AA way up. COD Black Ops played well at 1080p for me, and you’ll be able to max any source game on it. You can sometimes catch GTX 460s and 465s on special too, they’ll have more muscle than the 550 for sure. The GTX 560 Ti is probably the most popular choice, and ours has an especially good cooling solution.

We’ve got all three of those on sale at TigerDirect and Newegg right now, I know, $119 for the 550, $139 for the 465, and $209 for the 560. We’ve also got the 560 for $199 at Micro Center but the 470 is also running $160 there until they run out, and IIRC the 470 is a little quicker.

We make some pretty awesome cards if you read the reviews. Plus if you ever have a problem with one you can always hit me with a PM and I’ll fix it. I’ve been reading these forums basically every day for the last five years (although you wouldn’t think it with my post count).

Handy information. Thanks guys
