GTX 480

You can’t get 3 billion transistors under control. This is madness.

The 5970 has 4.3 Billion transistors and ATi got it under control.

Yeah, they seperated them onto two dies so cooling is easier.
c’mon man.

I understand that you orgasm over the 5970, but you do not have to mention it in almost every comment. IIRC it’s simply two 5870s put together. Despite being on a single PCB it doesn’t compare to a single GPU board such as the 480. The 5970 is a separate class, with a price tag and slim availability to go with it. Go make a separate thread for it and stop bringing it up.

Oh and BTW, Fermi is simply the codename of the GF100 series of cards which includes the 470 and 480. These are currently the only Fermi(GF100) boards and neither utilizes all 512 CUDA cores. The full potential won’t be seen until “GTX 512” boards are released.

It appears that no one on this board has, or intends to buy, a 480.

btw, the 5970 is made out of two 5850s

No its made out of two 5870 cores, thats why it has 3200 (1600x2) stream processors.

ah, yeah right, the core clock was the same as the 5850 and not the stream processors

They lowered the clock so it doesnt break the 300w limit. You can bring it back up to the 5870 clocks easily if you have a good psu and prolly beyond.

I just got a 285 2GB, ideally I won’t have to upgrade for a little bit longer.

You don’t have to buy any new graphics card for 5 years now. If you can play games with lowest settings there is no need to buy a new card.
