Grand Theft Auto games appreciation thread.

This is a thread for it. To remember how much this series is awesome.

Because they were sandboxes; You could do what you want, where you want, how you want. They say you should take a shotgun and a car to go take down a dealer from another gang or something, why not take a fuckin’ chopper, do a couple of stuns then go blew the motherfucker with a rocket launcher and a flamethrower?

Because of they had very good stories; You really felt (at least I did) attached to the characters, you believed in them. I was shocked when I had to kill Luigi in GTA III, or when you saw Ryder and Big Smoke tradin’ with Tenpenny in GTA San Andreas. There was a lots of action, suspense, everything a good game, or even a movie needs! I don’t know who is the writer for the series, but if he ever writes a movie in the style of GTA III or IV, I will make him passionate sex.

Because of its simplicity; you only had to take the controller and you could do whatever you want. Drive a car, a boat, an hellicopter, a tank, an ATV, a plane, a dodo, E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G without even looking in the Control Options. Even if you never had a controller in your hands before, 10 minutes latter you we’re stealin’ Mercedes and Cessnas.

Unfortunately I only ever played to GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas and a bit of the IV which was far too heavy for my comp, but I only own GTA III for the PS2. The others are pirated copies for PC. I will probably get VC/LC stories, as well a VC/SA for the PS2 off ebay if I get the job.

I too apreciate everyone’s favorite hooker-killer simulation.

I might reinstall Vice City and play through it again. Damn good game!

never played a one… closest thing to gta is prototype and oblivion… O_O

I put a Geforce 285 2gb in my computer, and GTA still kicks the crap out of it, mostly because my cpu is getting old.

Fun game, but if I could run it at a reasonable framerate, it’d be even better.

Grand Theft Auto IV is a good game… but it has less things to do than Grand Theft Auto III, which already didn’t have much to do except kill. And after a mammoth like San Andreas, it’s very disappointing.
It’s the perfect example of how developers are using “realism” as an excuse for not having cool shit. (Where’s my flamethrower Rockstar?!) However, GTAIII-SA was very frustrating. I couldn’t beat any of them without cheats. The cover system in GTA4 was a gift from the heavens.
So, for GTA5:
GTA4’s gameplay and storytelling with San Andreas’ cool shit.

I hate hype.

GTA4 is a very nice game but the performance sucks so much if you have a dualcore.

San Andreas ftw. A game where you can go pump yourself up in gym, get fat, dress up like Tony Montana? The whole state in your hands? I was sold out immediately.

bullshit.

I hate GTA 4. Well not hate, it’s quite a good game. It is overated though…alot.

San Andreas is arguably the best in the series.

GTA IV is the best of the games, imo.

I only ever used cheats on the consoles, when I got the GTA III series for the PC, I went through them without cheating once. Damn fun games. I <3 San Andreas.

I’ve been playing IV whenever I go to my friend who has it’s house, I like it quite a bit.

I loved GTA 2… never could finish the last level though :frowning:

I used cheats the first time through San Andreas, but second time though I didn’t.
All it takes is time to get used to the game and learning how to survive.

Also, driving in San Andreas is so much easier then GTA 4. When I switched over, I tried to drift around a corner, ran into 3 pedestrians and smoked a wall.

This series is awesome. Certainly my favorite one beside the Half-Life series. Vice City is by far the best, IMO; there’s such a great atmosphere. :stuck_out_tongue:

or true crime , or saints row , or every freggin sandbox game , closer then oblivion is red faction gurerilla

For once I actually agree with iKy.

That’s because they made driving in GTA 4 a lot more realistic. I prefer it, really. It’s really nice once you get used to it.

Look at GTA 4 along side San Andreas. GTA 4 is like half-sandbox in comparison.

More like GTA 4 is basically a bucket of sand, and San Andreas is a beach.

Anyway, it must be done:

Probably because you got half decent frame rates. It’s definitely fun, but harder.
It’s hard to tell how fast you’re going with bad framerates, so I usually end up drifting into a wall.

PS, best kill ever was when I was drifting, there was a guy standing next to the wall, and the side of my car smashed straight into him.

Vice City is the only GTA I’ve played and I must admit that I really enjoyed it.
