Gran Turismo 5

Did a forum search on this topic, surprised nobody’s created a thread regarding it (unless I completely fail using the search feature).

Found out my Microsoft Force Feedback Wheel that I got years upon years ago for my PC works on the PS3 for the most part (Only tried it with a demo of Sonic Racing though), definitely going to be picking up GT5 now.

Also looking for online races too eventually, was wondering who else around here is getting this game so I can add them to my friend’s list. Haven’t done any proper online “sim” racing since NASCAR Racing 2003.

inb4Siggs.

just another racing game.

Actually, I have far better places to discuss this game, no offence.

No worries, just browsing around forums seeing who actually plans on racing this online. I lurk a lot here, so was just curious who is game.

If you have any good recommendations to some unofficial GT websites, shoot me a PM Siggs, that’d be awesome. I’ve been out of the loop for quite a long time.

Picked it up today. Played a few races and then someone else wanted to use the TV -_-

Hopefully will play more tomorrow, looked awesome from the little I played.

Holy shit CU is back.

lol this
Also, they said that Shift 2 unleashed is gonna be more realistic.
Just throwin a bone

Maybe a little, but to GT5 levels? (I’ve heard great things about GT’s physic and ffb)

Take a look at these SHIFT: Unleashed screenshots. They may have the official FIA GT license, but that doesn’t mean 100% realism;

Holy shit somebody remembers me :stuck_out_tongue:

Naw but srsly, I just lurk a lot. I check in once and awhile to see what’s up.

What really bothered me about the whole thing was my wheel didn’t work so I was forced to use a controller. The NASCAR training section on drafting at Daytona, I couldn’t turn the car worth a damn. Too little umph and I’d go right up the track into the wall, too much and I’d sharply turn down into the apron. There wasn’t a middle ground.

So it took me like 5 or 6 attempts bobbling between too much turning and too little turning to manage a gold trophy.

Did you notice the same with a wheel? If not, it’s definitely not arcadey, there just isn’t enough radius with the analog stick. If so, something is really wonky with those physics. At least for NASCAR.

Also, just wanted to point this out. The VW Type 2 race on the Top Gear Test Track… Most. Rage. Inducing. Thing. Ever. @_@

cannot repel speed of this magnitude eh

What wheel do you use? The PS3 is pretty compatible…

I used the Microsoft Sidewinder wheel. Funny thing is, it does work for that Sonic Racing demo (minus the pedals, but that could be key mapping). Doesn’t work at all in GT5 though.

Had it for a week. Like it, but I was expecting more. Some of the tracks, like the old Autumn Ring etc. have not been well textured for some reason and it bothers me that only some cars have a drivers seat view. But it beats the hell out of shift.

btw, have somebody else than me had freezeproblems for PS3 with this game? The game has just stopped loading etc. 3-4 times on me and made me quit the game. Did not need to reset my PS3 but I had to restart the game!

The only bugbears I have with the game are that the aesthetic damage is barely noticable, and that the shadows are really blocky.

Behold, the only car you’ll ever need in this game.
