Got a Quick Suggestion? - Small suggestions that don't need their own thread

Look at how these soldiers on patrol are holding their weapons:

Ah, I see now.

OOH :freeman:

I’m gonna hazard a guess and say somebody might have already suggested this; but I’d like to see the Computer Monitors (where the Security Guard is) as modern day Widescreen LCD monitors, rather than those chunky old CRT monitors.

CRT monitors are badass.

No, because most workplaces (offices, laboratories, etc…) would have no need for widescreen monitors. Nor will they be running Windows 7 either, they will be old-fashioned CRT monitors and the computers will be running Windows 98!

From personal experience my wrist never got uncomfortable. Even during night foot patrols when we had to stay extra alert and keep our weapons at the “low ready”

As longs as your other arm is supporting the firearm, you can carry it like that for hours.

When I was playing through Ep2, again, I’ve noticed one thing that kind of started to bother me. It is really a small thing bet here it goes…

And what bothers me is that when you get into water the gun and hands doesn’t look like they are in the water. They look exactly the same way as if they were on the dryland. It makes me feel that I’m still dry while I’m underwater. Everything underwater is bloomed, refracted, fogged or whatever, except guns and hands. So why is that? I miss those bloomy, refractory, foggy effects right here…

-Scene is rendered to _rt_rendertarget texture
-View model is then rendered to _rt_rendertarget texture
-Post process ( bloom, motion blur, etc ) is then applied to _rt_rendertarget texture

Thus, the view model is rendered independently from the scene…

However, when the player is underwater the scene is rendered differently and a special refract texture is applied before the view model is rendered.

That wasn’t confirmed. The game is set in 200? (couldn’t read the last letter). So it could be '09 for all we know. Besides, The v-22 Osprey Helicopter hadn’t been accepted into military service until '05. And I figure such an overly high-tech place such as Black Mesa would have had plenty of LCD monitors. Besides, Aperture Science had LCD monitors.

(and yes, I know they aren’t going to be added and I’m just nitpicking here)

True, but since the original HL1 only had CRT monitors, it would either suggest that it IS the early 2000s, OR that they didn’t need widescreen LCD monitors.

I’m pretty sure you meant accepted

AS’s own LCD Screens and the Military’s use of the V-22 would suggest it’s closer to the late 2000’s though.

Self-facepalm.

Nowhere is it said that Portal and Half-Life take place simultaneously, they could be set 10 years apart.

Considering the world went to hell after Black Mesa, I doubt that.

That doesn’t mean that the Aperture Science facility (whatever it is named) would cease to function. It could take place during the Portal Storms.

It does mean, that no LCD monitors could be produced/purchased after Black Mesa.

Didn’t think of it that way :[

Aperture Science does not exist from the point of HL1, it’s only alluded to in Portal and Ep2. As for the V-22 Osprey, HL1 featured F16s which weren’t used by the US in 1998, they did use Harriers, which is why BMS uses Harriers as well

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
