Got a Quick Suggestion? - Small suggestions that don't need their own thread

aww, you big softie :3

wow…That was actually an attempt at humor. I felt neither pleasure nor sorrow when you stated that the trash bin was not carried over to BM from HL.

You lie, Javid, you lie.

I rather liked that one, to be honest. Especially the version that you could break.

How about having it so the gluon gun beam, makes one continuous line of scorch marks (like a scorch line) instead of a bunch of circular scorch marks in a row.

This is Source. It’s a video game, not magical.

Think about what you just said, and weep.

Well, I’m not a coder but I THINK, it looks like that because even though the animation is continuous, damage is done in bursts of lets say half second intervals of say 20 damage [eg. 2.5 seconds = 100 damage]. So to have a continuous ‘burn/scorch’ it would have to be say a .025/.05 second firing rate and that would be 100 health in .125 seconds [crazy OP]. So theoretically you can decrease the damage per tick of the weapon to say 1.25 damage per tick to get 100 damage in 2.5 seconds at a firing rate of .025 seconds.

The only issue I think this causes, is how the ammo count tick would evaluate the ammo being spent. There might be a plausible method to getting that effect [hopefully].

…I like the beam effect.

specially in 1: 38

That all seems logical - I know they are trying to keep the game close to the original, but I think increasing the rate of fire or using another trick would definitely help increase the visual effect of the beam’s “trail” on the surfaces it hits.

We should also keep in mind that the final version was not shown, so they may have already taken care of it.

Increasing the per tick count is bad, that would impose more trace lines per frame which decreases performance.

Couldn’t you change the decal so it looks more continuous, somehow? Probably not.

That works too.

As I stated in the other thread, that’s a good idea, but is there anything to substitute for the scorch marks?

If nor permanent, put something, such as some smoke for a few seconds…

By the way the Devs are answering about the final version. I would think they found the perfect solution since they didn’t release it. They don’t want us to make our computers sticky and ultimately blow up from the awesomeness. I have good faith that what ever they release will be perfect.

I lol’d at the incredibly cheesy ‘swirly’ animation of the gun firing at 1:25. Not the beam itself, the firing animation of the gun. It looks like gordon is just swishing the gun around. Love it.

Dohoho, I am pleased with the updated H.EV. Hands.

That should go in the ‘want updates’ thread, but yes haha I agree and just forgot to mention it!

I think he means the hands in the Gluon video.
