Got a Quick Suggestion? - Small suggestions that don't need their own thread

I think he’s trying to say the following:

While trapped under a tarp, the headcrabs should make the high-pitched noises, and Gordon Freeman (i.e. the player) should be able to tighten the tarp to inflict additional damage to the trapped headcrab.

the trap tarp Idea is cool.

Will the tarps be able to block grenades?
because that would be fun is someone threw a grenade and you picked up a tarp and it bounced off:freeman:

I’ve always wondered why you couldn’t kill headcrabs by jumping on them, I mean they weigh a fraction of a human’s weight, and it just looks strange when a headcrab tries to jump at you while you stand on it. And you take damage.

In Soviet Russia, you jump on headcrab! (I had to)

There was a point in HL where you fall out of a damaged pipe, landing on and breaking a table, squashing a headcrab that was underneath it.

Running around jumping on headcrabs sounds like it might be fun, but then again I still like batting them out of the air with the crowbar better

How about implementing that certain object with certain mass squish smaller enemies like Heacrabs and Snarks? Same thing as jumping on them.

You should remove the muzzleflash and the smoke of the guns underwater.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1owzoLosHx0&feature=channel_page

First off, this is very early development, so you can’t assume that’s what the glock is like now.

Secondly, while I can see the logic behind taking out smoke, why remove muzzleflash? If the gun will fire underwater, then there’ll be a muzzleflash regardless.

I can’t tell if its a muzzle flash or a really big bubble. Or both.

It looks like a muzzleflash to me

Looks cool as hell in that video. I’d prefer a big mass of DEATH-bubbles over a flash, personally.

That would destroy your ears so much…

A match made in heaven.

No

It looks rather like a big bubble to me. And this kind of effect in the mod would be genius.

After watching closely, no muzzle flash.

According to youtube, neither the glock nor the mp5 have a visible muzzle flash, at least in crappy compressed daylight videos. There probably is a small muzzle flash in the dark, which brings up the interesting suggestion that flashes could be bigger/existant in the dark.

It could briefly light up the room for like 1 frame, like a camera flash in total darkness.

Speaking of lights… I always found the flashlight to be very unrealistic :frowning:
It’s probably an engine limitation, but when you light up the flashlight in total darkness, the reflected light usually reveals most objects around you, or at least the contours. Some ‘dust’ effect would also be great with the flashlight… If you point it somewhere dusty, you see the beam because it reflects off the dust particles.

If that were to be the case, a muzzle flash would have to be as bright as a camera flash - that is, blindingly bright if you were looking directly at it. I don’t believe that’s the case with weapons like the Glock.

The way the HL2 flashlight works is a deliberate game mechanic, not an attempt to be realistic. Limiting your field of vision to the flashlight cone is a clever way of upping the tension level in a dark area - see the tunnel after the stalker-filled train crash in Episode One, for instance (the area where you have to light the zombies up for Alyx to take them down). For this reason, I don’t think the HL2 flashlight effect will be altered in the way you suggest.

Dust particle effects might indeed look nice if used appropriately, but I would imagine there would be a bit of a performance hit involved that might outweigh the visual benefits. It would also deviate from Valve’s graphical style, as unless I’m mistaken they have never done this?

Hmm, I thought it would create more light than that… but:

So… nevermind :stuck_out_tongue:

And yeah, I doubt the flashlight would change because it would definitely affect gameplay, and it would probably kill my computer anyway
It would just be nice eye candy

There’s also the question of whether the flashlight can be changed very easily… IIRC, in its current state, it doesn’t create light so much as it casts a light overlay onto whatever surface it’s pointed at. Adding additional effects to it would require a bit of code.
