Got a Quick Suggestion? - Small suggestions that don't need their own thread

Oh, please, you make it sound like no one on the face of the earth can turn around completely on a ladder with something in one hand.

They can’t turn around 360 degrees without some difficulty.

This discussion is pointless, isn’t it?

The only possible answer: it’s just a game! A very realistic game plot-wise, but not gameplay-wise.

Well, some games -recently- have decided upon a somewhat realistic approach, but Half-Life started back in 1998 and they don’t want to change their core gameplay mecanics. It’s as simple as that, I believe.

Running and shooting are “core gameplay mechanics.” 360 degree sprinting up ladders with no hands is not a “core gameplay mechanic,” its a hack necessitated by lack of animation resources.

L4D makes it pretty well; both in first person and third person. They can make it if they want. So they don’t want.

But yeah, it’s not a “core gameplay mechanic”. Mea culpa…

Thats what I said, “they don’t want” = they could have done it better but they compromised for the sake of time/money. And L4d wasn’t developed by Valve.

It’s not a pointless discussion since it’s about the mechanics of a game. If it were about the texture of the ladders, then yes, pointless, but as it stands it isn’t.

I find it pointless because I don’t care either way.

He’s a SCIENTIST. Scientists can do anything! Except cure cancer and stuff like that…

I’m saying that arguing about how realistic HL-ladders are is INDEED pointless. Not how or why they’re going to do it. You know; third arm, turning with one hand, etc…

…or get decent datesXD

nah jk, I was stereotyping. Sorry if I offended anyone.

:frowning:

Can you finish Blast Pit first please.

Yeah, Ram, THEN you can commit suicide. We don’t give a shit about you, it’s all about the mod :fffuuu:

LIES! We love Raminator.
She is a pretty gurl :3

You are if you’re using the correct controls for climbing the ladder. :3

Not really. Your body is facing the ladder, not the ceiling. :3

HL has no full-body awareness - there is no body, just a pair of floating hands that are, in this case, aimed skywards.

then how come you can only look upwards to a certain point?

Hello there!

I am new to this site and wanted to ask a question: There are currently two screenshots in the media section, showing an mp5 with attached grenade launcher, and an m4 carbine, also with a grenade launcher.

I agree that the mp5 should use the same ammo as the glock, because it’s the same in reality, anyway. I only wanted to know something in particular:

In HL 1 the mp5 was the standard issue assault weapon of the marines. With the High Definition Patch this weapon’s model was changed to an m4 with talon grenade launcher, but still using the 9mm ammo. You seem to be planning to implement both weapons at the moment, so my question is: Will the m4 use other ammo than the mp5? And: What will be the differences between those two weapons, if both have a grenade launcher attached?

I think in real life the m4 uses 5.56 mm NATO ammunition, which is said to be capable of penetrating walls (if they are not too massive, of course). Will there be such a feature?
Is the M4 just going to be a stronger version of the mp5 using different ammo? One user before me stated that only the m4 will be able to fire grenades. That would make much more sense to me, but: How is that when both models have a grenade launcher attached? Maybe it would be more convenient to have a flashlight attached to the mp5 instead of a grenade launcher, thus weakening the weapon a bit and making the m4 with grenade launcher a real upgrade. The secondary fire on the mp5 could be changed into using that neat laser sight instead. Just a suggestion, and of course I don’t know whether or not these ideas have already been taken care of, so don’t be pissed!

Finally I want you developers to know how much I appreciate the hard work put into this monster project, and am eager to play it once it’s out. Whenever that will be. Just please finish it some day in the next two years, that’s all I am hoping for. Don’t make it become a second Duke Nukem Forever! If I had any skills that you required, I would immediately apply, but aside from having a creative mind capable of cool ideas for game scenes, there is nothing I can offer. And I am sure you bunch of people already have more than enough of that.

Oh, and don’t let yourselves be troubled by impatient postings from people who don’t understand the difficulty of your task. Know that we love you for what you are doing, and that we appreciate the time and effort you are putting into this!

A Fan.
