One thing that annoyed me in HL was that ALL grunts had MP5s with M203s attached even though only commanders and the black ones actually used them. I suggest that the grunts that won’t fire grenades have MP5s without attached M203s and the ones who will fire grenade have MP5s with them attached. Same goes for security guards, as I’m assuming they won’t use grenade launchers.
Wow, no preview or anything
Awesome. It works. The only thing it’s missing its the moving “Half-Life” logo.
Yeah, well… I don’t know how to put an AVI at the top of the menu in steam, so…
But I digress. We should get back on topic.
Any thoughts on my suggestion about grunts and MP5s?
i think the devs have already thought of that.
For the HUD … i suggest they should stick to the original … but with a little touch by the devs … the new one used in the “old school like the old school” video it’s just not right (my oppinion), am i the only one who thinks that? what are your suggestions ?
Too much work for nothing. Also it’s up to the soldier to choose if he want to use it.
It requires barely any work, simply recompiling a model and maybe a couple of lines of code.
I don’t remember any of the grunts ever firing any rifle grenades at all.
Barely ? It would imply a new model, skin, adjust all animations, etc… But the worst is the following : if you pick up the simple MP5, it should be without the M203 so kind of a new useless weapon. In the case you make it “ungrabable”, players would mind “WTF since when I can’t have the MP5 ?” and think of some kind of bug.
Besides, it’s STANDARD ISSUE WEAPONRY.
You wouldn’t want to have the grenades, taken from a fallen comrade, and have no launcher, would you?
Plus, it’s not like it’s only used for HE grenades. M203s can fire teargas, flashbangs, anything built to be fired from it. I’m pretty sure they’ve even fired buckshot before. Who knows? Maybe most of the grunts were given a single teargas canister to fire, and already used them by the time Freeman got there.
There are several rounds that the M203 can fire, there is the incendiary(burn stuff), the high explosive(standard blow shit up grenade), the high explosive dual purpose(blow up light armored vehicles),smoke(concealment/signaling), tear gas(riot control/hostage rescue), flare(signal), and buckshot(one shot room clearing, however it is recommended to have 2 different barrels if you are going to use both buckshot and other grenade types due to the buckshot wearing out the rifling of the barrel). Although the M203 fires a 40mm grenade it is not recommended to try using a 40mm grenade that is designed to be fired from a Mk19(belt fed, automatic 40mm grenade launcher which can only be fired if mounted on a tripod or mounted on a vehicle). The Mk19 grenades fire at a higher velocity than the M203 grenades. If an individual(aka idiot) tries to fire a Mk19 grenade out of an M203 launcher it will create over pressure and turn his/her M203 into shrapnel causing horrendous injuries if not death.
Edit: Sorry I got excited and decided to share my knowlege on the subject
It’s fine, it only confirms my point.
Thanks for the military expertise.
Would be cool to see a Commander launch a flare, causing an Apache Gunship to appear for support.
wouldn’t they just call it in? I don’t see why they’d shoot a flare for gunship support (not that I know anything about such things).
Let’s turn Black Mesa into a realistic military tactical shooter while we’re at it.
Well, the combine launched a flare to summon two gunships at Nova Prospekt.
it was also during a night-fight (even though those flares just lit up their own position)
