Got a Quick Suggestion? - Small suggestions that don't need their own thread

I think this is the best way to go here.
Sounds like it’s simple to implement and it would look good.

Totally agree.

How about they mix the tram part and the AGrunt part a bit and make it more like the other HL2 G-Man sequences?

Something like showing you the AGrunt while the G-Man’s head is overlayed on the screen, talking to you.

Then the face fades away and the screen fades to black.

How about no.

I use to have an over contrived and convoluted scene written up for the Grunt scene at one point, but it was lost in the crash.

You know, Ram, it would probably be nicer if you just posted “Guys, we already sorted this scene out, don’t worry, no more suggestions are needed.”

Because people are trying ti help you by suggesting things that could be done, and it’s not really nice of you to bash them.

You seem mistake the Black Mesa forums as a fair, equal place where everyone’s input is valued and respected.

and besides. with a little over two months left before “release date” even small suggestions are unlikely to be implemented. If your suggestions had been input, oh say in MAY, they might have had a chance.

Go at it, tough guy, see where it gets ya.

Anyway, yeah, it was when I was first here and when writing huge scripted sequences the team would never use was all the rage (or maybe it was just me:3). Anyway, the scene I came up with was a first person beat-up with an optional flashlight, followed by the dragging, then followed by being tossed into the garbage compacter while the grunts say they took his weapons and they didn’t want to waste a shot on the fucker. When you landed, you’d hear a Vort spawn and kill them both, and your trustee crowbar flies onto the ledge you climb onto.

So, yeah, it was bulky and clumsy, so Ram wasn’t really being dismissive. He probably never really cared to look, considering they already had most of their sequences set up.

IMO this thread is for small suggestions, not redux scenes or new sequences.

Searching returned no results, and I couldn’t remember if it had been discussed so… Has there been any mention of incorporating visual clues to help you know where you are inside the BM Complex? I understand that Blue Shift, (while not cannon and not part of this mod) had a map that I personally loved, primarily because it gave me an idea where I was inside The Black Mesa Research Complex, something that I felt was lacking in the original HL. Maby it was just me, but a long series of tubes and ladders resulted in me getting disoriented rather fast, and it would have been nice to have something like a floor number occasionally to tell me where the hell I was, as opposed to just being somewhere that still had enemies to shoot.

unlikely. the maps cross over themselves so a 2-D map would be absolutely useless in the black Mesa research facility. anyway, nice username, Pixar fan.

What are you talking about?

I understand the maps cross themselves, but the map was not realistic, it was just a nice feature to give realism to an otherwise unrealistic environment, it falls in the same category with safety rails, its a nice touch.

How about the door slams shut when you go inside and some sort of nerve-agent-smoke-stuff starts bellowing into the room through the vents making you unconscious. Then they come in and drag you away…

I always thought that would be the best way of making it realistic…it at least gets rid of the previous point of throwing a hundred grenades in the room before going in and you still get a good clubbing…

What I would like to see is a new mode for the Hazard Course called “Speed Run” in which you’ll have to beat the clock on the Hazard course (or just play it as quick as plausible) and then that it would be uploaded online on a Highscore list.

Sounds fun, but I think it might be a little difficult to implement anti cheating into it. Otherwise people would be nocliping/using the console to complete it in impossible times.

So just have a script that invalidates the score if a cheat is used.

Regardless, this probably won’t be implemented.

Is there any difference? I checked it on the Half-life wikia, and the PCV just looks like a regular vest with a calculator crookedly glued on to it in a stupid looking way.

So much posting in this thread, so little posting with substance or relevance to the topic.

We won’t be implementing a hazard course race, online scoreboard, etc. - it’s a training level designed to introduce newcomers to the game (which, now, is probably somewhat obsolete anyway, since most everyone will be familiar with the HL/2 controls) not a competition. The efforts to implement and maintain such a system would add extra development time which we need to, you know, finish the mod.

Another suggestion:

Stats counter, pretty simple it counts how many enemies you have killed (and with which weapon) so Headcrabs, Vortigauns, Soldiers and also how many friendlies you have engaged.
