Got a Quick Suggestion? - Small suggestions that don't need their own thread

Have minor in-perfections on environment/weapons which were caused by normal day-to-day work.
eg:

  • a table top has not got a perfect wood skin.
  • metal is very often scrached (take Crysis weapons for example)
  • edges are always slightly round (look around you)

Another thing:
Have rotating/scrolling message boards giving small Black Mesa background stories.
eg:

  • “Staff meeting postponded.”
  • “Last accident: 21 days ago”
  • [the time]
  • “A good beginning makes a good end.”
  • Do a little more each day than you think you possibly can. -Lowell Thomas”
  • [1 in 20 chance of Spoiler]
  • Do every act of your life as if it were your last. -Marcus Aurelius”

Fix’d

I thought you could controll head bob/roll with cl_bob and sv_rollangle/rollspeed? that’s how I used to counter that head tilting motion - I loved it in singleplayer, but hated it in multi.

I’ve never seen an In-perfection, so I’ll assume you mean imperfection.

I have no idea what textures the team is using, but I think we can assume that they are not pristine surfaces. As for the edges, you must remember that this is a GAME. Rounding off every corner like that would quickly make it run like crap.

Basically; applying small edge chamfers to -every- surface is pretty polygon-intensive. We only do it where it’s really necessary.

Most of that could be done with textures anyway.

when did I say I that didn’t like first person shooters? Also im not saying that BM should be any differant to what it already is. I was suggesting some minor improvements.

How noticeable will the head-tilting be?

Will your neck snap to a 45° angle when you go left or right?!

I suggest “Muzzle Flash Lighting”:
https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Muzzle_Flash_Lighting

Because it’s almost strange, if a dark environment isn’t light up by it!

You suggested that already in another thread. :fffuuu: It’s taken care of, just watch the trailer!

I have to agree with the HEV hand replacing. The model and it’s texture are the only bad content I’ve seen in BMS - it looks like cheap, overly scratched orange plastic which is 1" too thick around his hand.

It’s probably already been fixed. If not, oh well. It’s not like they’re supposed to be latex gloves, they’re part of a computerized haz-mat suit.

A computerized hazmat nano-technology suit!!! Remember the Freeman can run at an increased pace and jump much further with the use of the HEV!

I haven’t anything like that noticed in the trailer.

And yes, I have asked that in another thread already, but never got a reply.

Take a look at the mortar video on youtube, it shows the lean.

What the did you mean by free-view? Actually, scratch that, what did any of your post mean?

I think he means third person mode.

Free view, its like pay-per-view… except for FREE.

Or he means remote viewing perhaps?

no, you guys have completely misunderstood my post. I don’t mean third person view. What I actually meant was “free-aiming” i.e. when you stand still and aim, the arms move around freely which feels more natural. Usualy the gun is fixed with the camera so when you aim the camera and gun both move together (basically they’re fixed together)… but in free-view/aim, the gun, arms and hands actually move around within the camera. Everything feels more realistic that way. Its hard to explain

God, no, that doesn’t fit with the atmosphere of HL at all. That is more suited to games it’s already in, like Red Orchestra. Realism-oriented games. On top of that, that’s a hell of a lot of work for the devs and is asking for at least a few more months of development time to implement and iron out bugs.
