Nevermind, wrong topic.
Well those Turrets that the soldiers supposedly place target the player, the player allied NPC (Barney & Scientists) and the aliens, but they don’t target the soldiers, so I assumed it might be possible to create a new turret that targets everyone except the player and the player allies.
Don’t they target the marines too? Can’t remember a spot where there were both marines and turrets at the same time though…
Of course it could be done. But should they do it? No. It is not worth the effort.
There isn’t one. They are always separate. But there is that spot in “We’ve Got Hostiles!” where you can find a dead soldier in a pool of blood near a sentry.
Along the journey in Power Up, there is a radio, some crates, a sentry in the corner, and numerous grunts.
Good point. But they may have just overlooked that. When I tried to test the turrets earlier I had one that refused to shoot headcrabs, but shot vortiguants. And I had one that refused to shoot alien grunts, but when the grunt turned around and startd shooting the turret, the turret started shooting his bees.
Like I said, it’s something I’ve always wanted and thought was missing in the game. And since my only request was to be able to spawn one (or a dozen) using a console command rather than having them placed around the maps for use, if you don’t think they’re a good idea then you don’t have to use them (if they choose to put one in).
It’s just something I would really like to see and be able to use, and something I didn’t think would be too difficult to include.
They will not be implementing things just because someone thinks it would be cool. Especially if it wouldn’t even be in the mod. That’s just wasted work.

Gordon: “…”

I’m sorry, I thought this was a suggestions thread. A thread for posting suggestions.
I didn’t realise that one completely random person could shoot down any given suggestion and it therefore won’t make it into the mod… especially when that persons only arguement is that suggestions someone (ONE, ie only one person) thinks is cool won’t make it simply because it was only made by one person. Looks through thread at all the other suggestions that are made by one person alone.
You’re right Angdraug, I thought it would be cool, so I suggested it. Isn’t that what a suggestions thread is for? Isn’t that what everyone else has done - posted a suggestion for something they think would be cool?
And besides that, I don’t see your name in the Team list, so can I ask who you are to decline any suggestion so definitively and absolutely?
I obviously understand that there will be plenty of people who don’t like or agree with my idea, and that’s of course fine, but the law of averages would suggest there will also be those who like and agree with my idea, so those who don’t agree (and especially those who actually have nothing to do with developing the mod) really should not voice their disagreement with such distaste and inconsideration.
Anyway, @TheDevs, that is my suggestion… my one and only item in my wishlist of things that I think would have been “cool” in Half Life. I will be playing Black Mesa regardless, goes without saying. I thought it might be easy, considering that Black Mesa is going to be a mod for HL2, simply to give us a code that we can use in the console to spawn one of those turrets that, in the story, Alex re-programs to help the player in HL2. You don’t need to change the model, or include them in places through the HL story line, just give people the option.
Thank you in advance for considering my suggestion.
I won’t be replying here again, as that person above has grated on my nerves with his/her attitude enough that I’m afraid I might say something “colourful” next time.
There’s usually a command to spawn just about anything. And I doubt they’ll be removing the commands you can use to make things friendly.
(whispers)Psst! Chill out. It’s just the internet. Don’t get all butt hurt cause some people find your idea to be silly. You know you can always wait until they suggest something dumb and rag on them the same way they did to you. So relax dude. It’s not that serious.
While playing half-life 2, I’ve noticed that the stalkers eye-lasers leave burn decals where the lasers hit. Due to the way the effects are drawn, the burns come out as a series dots rather then the expected line when moved along a surface. Maybe an effect similar to light-trails could fix this.
A voice changer to go with the Face-Creation System. So that the same lines of dialogue can be used by the same NPC types, but provides a greater degree of variety. It might also be nice to be able to manually customize and save face presets for deathmatch.
I was going to suggest vestibulo-ocular reflex (aim tilting up and down to compensate for vertical camera-bobing & maintain aim) but I think that might be more motion-sickness inducing then the camera-bob it’s self. Especially with close targets.
that can be fixed with smart decal placing , i can’t understand why they didn’t , go smart…
While the continuous sprite is a good suggestion, I feel a need to nitpick. There’s no evidence the stalker lasers are continuous beams. Little bursts would conserve energy.
Also, I will ask: Where would these beam decals be applied? For the gluon gun?
That’s what I meant, but forgot to include in the post.
I apologize for being too hostile, I tend to be like that when tired.
And I actually like your idea. In HL2 after I got my hands on a friendly turret I never went anywhere without one until I couldn’t fit one with me in the combine teleporter.
No, I’m not a dev and that is not why I said it would not be implemented. It’s just how life works. Generally if you give someone something, then everyone else will be wanting their share. Besides your suggestion was too close to asking just a new console command and it has been said before, that the team will not be adding more commands just because someone asks for them. If they did, they wouldn’t have time for anything else.
Although I can’t say for certain that this will not be implemented I am pretty sure that they will not tell you beforehand if it is. You’ll just have to wait and see. And if it gets into the mod, you (and I) will be pleasantly surprised.
edit: PS. Oh and there is a difference if someone suggests something to be in the mod and if someone suggest something to be added as a console bonus just because they think it’s cool. The former will, if cool, benefit everyone that plays while the latter is generally work wasted, since you wouldn’t normally even see it in the mod. Thus my negative response on your suggestion. It was nothing personal.
you hurt his soul…
i suggest the gluon cannon to have splash , and the backpack gun to have delay like tentacles :-?
I agree with both of your suggestions!
As for the MP5, it was replaced with an M4 in the high-def pack, and if you look closely in the trailer, it’s an M4. Very accurate as opposed to the MP5, AFAIK. Can some military people clear this up, please?
