Got a Quick Suggestion? - Small suggestions that don't need their own thread

OMG not the splash again! It’s tau cannon not gluon cannon. Also the “backpack gun” is the gluon gun.

If you mean the BM trailer then no that is still an MP5, a very awesome MP5 that I want to get in RL. BTW that replacement of the MP5 with an M4 in the high def pack was the dumbest thing I’ve seen, especially since it shared the 9mm ammo that the glock used.

Most of the encounters in Black Mesa take place at close to moderate range (At least until you get outside). In those situations, I think the MP5 is better suited.

Maybe if they implement a system where the HECU troops outside have M4/M16s and the teams inside use the MP5/Shotgun a sort of middleground could be reached.

The tau cannon seems to have a splash in HL1 simply because (when it’s not at a glancing angle and bouncing off) it leaves a red-hot glowing section of wall which slowly cools back down, from which some sparks “drip” off just after impact. It also penetrates walls of medium thickness in doing so so can be used to shoot through walls, something a liquid-firing weapon would not do.
IIRC, there is also some splash-damage as it passes through the wall, but I might be wrong on that one.

On an unrelated note, in HL1 at some point after getting the rocket launcher, there is a tank at the end of a short road with a cliff on one side and a wall on the other (with a hole in it leading to a small ammo cache guarded by a few soldiers).
Said tank (a Bradley I think) fires rockets, specifically the same kind as the RL, and if you have your laser-guide on, they track to it just like your own ones.

My suggestion is to include that fact to the point that, like in the original, you can guide the rockets to the wall or road for safe passage, and if careful enough, guide them to the road just in front of the tank, such that after several shots, the tank ends up killing itself from the splash damage…at no cost to your own health or ammo (c:

If it’s in the original, it’ll be in BMS. Except the outdated graphics and phisics, of course.

Dallows? Is that you?

Yes it is, comrade.

Heh heh heh.

So anyway, I had an idea for something: How about having the HECU run out of ammo with their MP5 and switch to their pistols? It’d be a nice touch.

The Devs said they originally were going to do that but they found through play testing that players tend to wait til they run out of ammo for their main weapon to engage them while they are only able to fire at you with their sissy pistol. If I remember correctly they are still keeping the pistol but what was said about when they would use it I don’t remember.

I’m not sure if they’ll keep their pistols, maybe visible in the holster but when you kill a grunt, he drops only the MP5 ammo and maybe some grenades. Otherwise the glock gonna be unlimited ammo with so many clips on dead people and storage rooms :retard:

The Glock and MP5 share ammo so the point is entirely moot.

maybe the gluon is the gluon , but i have in this second hl installed and when you take the car with the TAU Cannon installed , i citate alyx “could you please lend gordon the car that my father rigged with the TAU cannon ?” and that gun looks NOTHING like the one in hl1 , sry , fail

UGH.

While I do not recall her ever saying that it was the tau, it greatly resembles the one from HL1. The one that shoots the energy beam things IS the tau cannon, which is what they are trying to tell you. Gluon Gun is the backpack gun.

Tau Cannon:

Nice reassuring picture of kittens:

Looks a lot like the Tau Cannon to me.

And the fact that she calls is the “Tau Cannon” kind of confirms that it is, you know, the Tau Cannon.

I just confirmed, it is the Tau Cannon, but that is not the point currently. They are BOTH the Tau Cannon.

You’d figure since the games were twenty or so years apart they’d have made some sort of change to the weapon anyway.

of course the one from hl2 is the TAU cannon , too bad the one from hl1 it’s a Gauss cannon :frowning:

"alyx sais that’s the tau cannon when you get out of the mine after the priest section , and you beat those combines entering an rebel outpost , at the start of highway 17 , alyx through radio sais what i just said , just playd that part "

so we are speaking about THREE weapons here

the TAU cannon : the one alyx sais it’s attached to the car
the GAUSS cannon : the one from half life 1 that shoots orange lines
the GLUON cannon : the one from half life 1 that’s’s like a backpack

It was orange water not too long ago.

Not to mention that the Tau cannon and the Gauss Gun shoot the exact same thing.

They never refer to the one from HL1 by name, and it shares incredibly similar function and weapon effects with the one from HL2. Also, both have three spin-a-majigs that get faster as they charge. The tau cannon from HL1 is the prototype, and the one from HL2 is the finalized version.

The only place you got the name gauss from is the file name, and by that logic the gluon gun should be called the egon, but it isn’t.

Half-Life Deathmatch -

Death is listed as by Tau_Cannon

Gauss guns, also known as coilguns, are guns that shoot their projectiles with a force generated by electromagnetic coils, as opposed to gunpowder. They exist in real life.

The tau cannon of Half-Life shoots laser beams, so I think it is safe to assume that it isn’t a gauss gun
