Got a Quick Suggestion? - Small suggestions that don't need their own thread

Oh no, I agree. I liked it, but in all of Half-Life’s glory, OAR was the least entertaining for me.

This. Plus the ‘ambience’ was annoying as hell, and all the func_waters made it impossible to hear half the NPC sounds.

Did you at least keep most of the Hgrunt encounters, and the ‘move the crane’ area? That was one of the better parts of OAR, simply because the area had so many extra parts. (and magnum ammo)

I also wasn’t a fan of OAR. Still Residue Processing is without doubt the worst part of HL. I like the idea that you’re sneaking back into the facility via the internal workings and no go areas but it really could have been less… less… shit!

OAR though, was the closest thing to a vehicle section in HL1 and as far as I am concerned, Valve didn’t get vehicle sections right until Episode 2. The Airboat and Buggy sections in HL2 were bloody horrible. Having to clear crazy obstacles like bridges and using the magnet so I can pass. More like a chore than a game.

I dunno. I enjoyed the air boat section parts where I was IN the air boat. That part where the tower gets shot down…awesome.Every time, just as it breaks apart I hit a curved piece and get sent flying.

really? I personally loved those parts, especially with the big magnet crane - I thought all those stops were nice because it gave me a break from just driving too much. But I totally understand what you’re saying. I liked on a rail a lot, it really did give me a totally different perspective of the underground area, and the massiveness of the game, the first few times I played through it. I can run through HL1 in about 1h35min now. Not nearly as fast spider-waffle though!

Why would you want to speed run a game?

I want to do a speed run with cheats enabled, and simply noclip through everything

speed running is awesome - did you actually watch the guy run through HL1 in 30 min? speed running is basically perfecting yourself with every aspect of the game without cheating at all! I’m actually working on an official speedrun of mechwarrior 2 right now, but thats for another thread/forum.

as for speedruns and BMS, it will be very interesting to see the teams try to speedrun this game after its out. Will be years, but well worth the wait IMO.

The 30 minute thing was abusing the momentum building bunny hop thing like crazy, though.

And how is that cheating?

He didn’t say it was cheating. But it is. If someone drove around a racetrack, you’d say they were cheating.

That’s like saying that sculling a bottle of wine is perfecting your tasting skills.

It’s not cheating, its built into the game. Its learning the limits of the game and pushing them without addons or anything the game was not intended to do - scripts were built into the game (as well as 95% of all other games)to enhance its playability, just as BMS will have scripts possible(as HL2 engine is built all around scripts).

as dictionary.com states, “5. to violate rules or regulations: He cheats at cards.” no rules or regulations are being broken by bunny hoping or using scripts.

Yet ‘cheating’ is more ‘to each his own,’ as some would argue that, for example, in hl1, throwing a grenade behind an enemy to get him to run in the open(for the easy kill) is cheating(making good use of the system), while others see this as a useful legal tactic to win.

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bring this age-old question of ‘to cheat or not to cheat’ up :frowning: I was just trying to point out a neat website that shows how dedicated some people are to half life, and how much love we all have for it - and how I can not wait another second untill this is released.

I’m actually planning on taking some vacation time once this is released, dedicated just to playing this game!

Okay then, it’s exploiting. Happy now?

If you think the speed running was bad in Half Life videos, you should see some Deus Ex speed runs. Wow, do those take advantage of exploits…

I personally hope that Black Mesa can remove as many exploits as they possibly can. I hate the tards that take advantage of those things and think they are so cool for doing it.

I hope that the door on the WGH security station is only openable from the inside, ie. if you shoot the scientist at the beggining, he can’t open it to run from you.
Either that or force him to stay in his sequence unless he dies, which is what happens after he runs to the place he’s supposed to.

The only games worth speed-running for bragging rights (IMO) would be one completely based on reflexes, speed, coordination, timing, and fast thinking. Something like the very first mario game. I see no point in speed-running a game like Half-life.

Like memorising door codes that aren’t supposed to be revealed until several objectives are completed, thereby skipping large segments of the game.

Wat

Yeah he’s right speed running ruins the game experience.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
