it’s quite obvious that the voice came from the chamber upstairs
also, it was never said the the incident happened on Gordon’s first day
it’s quite obvious that the voice came from the chamber upstairs
also, it was never said the the incident happened on Gordon’s first day
^this basicly
Here’s an example. Let’s say you were in one room, and in another room, you heard something that didn’t sound right. You ask the person in the other room if everything’s fine, they answer back that everything’s fine, but in reality, you have a feeling that something’s wrong, and it later turns out something was. Now imagine you were Gordon, and the scis kept saying that the anti-mass spectrometer was functioning at 105% when it should only be at 90%, and then a sci says that there’s a small discreapancy with the AMS, but not to worry. You, as Gordon, ask what’s going on, a sci answers back that nothing’s wrong and for you to continue working, but when you proceed, that’s when it happens, and you can figure out the rest.
The point here is, don’t you think Gordon just might want to know what’s going on just once? After all, it was the beginning of the game, and that part was entirely optional to hear, so perhaps Valve put it there as an easter egg.
Gordon doesn’t talk period. It has been said and confirmed and everything by Valve.
I hear it say “whats he doing in there?” and then like a second later “Nothing you need to worry about Gordon, eh ahch, now go ahead.” This does not make sense
Well then, if it’s never confirmed exactly who all was involved in that conversation, no one’ll ever know for certain. Though on a side note, I do believe that if Valve ever gave Gordon a voice, it wouldn’t sound like Marty McFly.
Well it sounds like a scientists voice but if it is they messed the order up
It does sound somewhat like the default voice for the scientist, ‘Slick’, just higher pitched, but the problem here is that since most scis share this same voice, except for some scis at the beginning and a few others, why they would make this one voice higher pitched, I don’t know.
My theory after hearing it 100 time over and over
I think it is a scientist asking what Gordon is doing in there (because you are doing nothing and it does sound like it is coming over the intercom)
and the voice that follows is just trying to convince Gordon that nothing will go wrong
But I have to admit that it is kind of odd that they would follow one another so close
there are several refferences to that particular experiment not being entirely safe. i guess everybody knows that. one of the scientists was trying to follow protocol and protesting about the whole thing being unsafe. the other one made him shut his mouth quickly telling gordon that everything is okay so he doesn’t freak out also and proceed with the experiment. it’s not that big of a deal.
listen to you! gordon talks… pfff…
I understand where you’re coming from, but why does the sci say “Nothing you need to worry about, Gordon, go ahead.”? These theories would make more sense if the sci said “Nothing you need to worry about. Gordon, go ahead.” but since he puts a comma after “about”, and since the first person’s voice sounds like no one else, it seems only natural to think that Gordon is the one talking. It’s not like that back then, everyone felt that his silence was a signature part of his character, it was usually typical FPS fare for the MC to no talk, as usually there was no one around to talk to. Obviously, HL1 was an NPC interaction heavy game, but Valve obviously added to Doom with a better story and NPC interaction (aside from obvious differences).
The point is that at first, Valve may have just not given Gordon a voice because it was an FPS where the hero isn’t Duke Nukem, but just a regular scientist
then why the fudge doesn’t he talk in the rest of the game? why would valve make a game where the protagonist only talks once and even then it deosn’t make sense?
why would gordon ask something like that? what’s WHO doing over there?
the voice being higher pitched may be the result of a post processing where they recorded a line and then they saw it should be faster so they sped the original up instead of re recording. it’s not like they gave a rat’s ass
“WHO THE FUCK IS CONTROLLING ME??”
“WHY DOES MY BODY MOVE ON ITS OWN??”
“I DON’T WANNA CLIMB INTO A FUCKING STALKER POD!!”
etc.
Like I said above, most heroes in FPS games didn’t talk, with the exception of Duke Nukem being the most well known. Gordon might be asking what the sci is doing in the control room, and it also wasn’t required to hear, as you could just get the test over with quickly, and Valve just may have put it there as an easter egg. It could’ve even been a reaminder of what was left of Gordon’s original voice, if he had one, but he obviously didn’t have much of one, if this is the case.
let’s just drop it. i like your signature too damn much to start smacking the shit (local expression ) over gordon’s voice
“Why no one tells me what the hell happened in the last 20 years?!?!?!. Combine? 7 Hours War? What the fuck is all that?!?!?!”
and when Barney is leaving by train in EP1:
“Barney, you motherf***er, come back!!!. I just remebered you still owe me that beer. Where is it? And “I’ve been too busy fighting the Combine” or “There’s no beer in this dystopian world” is not an excuse!!!”
Ep1: After throwing back a combine ar2 energy ball.
“Keep your balls to yourself!”
Hmm…alright, I suppose I’ll drop it.
“I want that beer now…”
