Good mods let down by certain things

Portal? Walk through the shiny blue circle :stuck_out_tongue:

MINERVA- That mod got a lot of praise and i went ahead and downloaded it, i played it and the mod didn’t seem to impress me at all, i sometimes get lost or confused on where to go, so really i found the mod to be overrated.

DYSTOPIA- It looked like a great mod, but then i played it and realized how hard it was, i kept getting killed over and over again because of that invisibility shit, and when I’m shooting a opponent, it seems like I’m doing very little damage, but then when their shooting me, i lose a lot of health and die in 2 seconds, even as a heavy it seems I’m not doing much damage, yet the opponent is a light class and he keeps kicking my ass, after that i stopped playing.

HALF LIFE 2 WARS- when i first heard of this i was like, finally a hl2 rts, but when i played it, i was dissapointed, first off, the A.I are stupid, every time i issue a command to move, they get stuck and sometimes they don’t move at all, second, the enemies always seem to kick my ass, no matter what i do, it’s like i have a group of 7 soldiers, but then all of a sudden i now have 1 and he’s getting his ass kicked, WTF.

DECADENCE- 2 players per team, plus i found the scouts tranquilizer to be overpowered and could have been balanced a little more.

lol’d and chortled.

No wait. I actually didnt finish portal because the puzzles made me cry. :expressionless:

It’s still in beta. They’ve mentioned before that they know the AI sucks, and they were trying to get the game working first of all. I believe the next release they are working on AI.

Maybe you’re the one with path finding issues, instead of the HL2 Wars AI.

Yeah seriously, if you find Minerva bad I have to assume you don’t have a brain. The guy who made it was hired by Valve, even they thought it was good.

Anyway, I was going to say Rock 24, but then I realised I didn’t think it was that good of a mod. Yeah ok it’s put forward as an example on the Valve Developer Community, but the voice acting wasn’t great in parts, some puzzles confusing and it lacked the whole half life feel. It was also really short. Could have done a lot better.

Minerva is definately the greatest HL2 mod I’ve ever played.

BALK MEAS SAUCE - 5 years passed and not released what is this I don’t even

He probably is.
Overrated my rear end. Adam wouldn’t end up working for Valve if that was the case.

So you sucking at a game makes it a bad game?

By the looks of it, he blames his lack of skill to why it sucks.

So far, imo Dystopia is best mod ever released for HL2.

The mod wasn’t horrible, it was just boring.

Nah, Black Mesa will beat that overrated piece of shit.

OOPS, i forgot i could edit my posts, sorry :frowning:

I liked Portal: Prelude up until I realized that it was garbage.

I agree, the mod was disappointing.

Most of the mods I’ve played so far were let down by a bad voice acting. “Ravenholm” was the most shocking one. I wonder what they were thinking when they recorded their audio files. :retard:

Lots of good puzzles, it’d have been nice if they did some voice acting, but hey, whatevs, I don’t mind that much.

Final boss was incredibly stupid though, got killed way too much.

Neotokyo, while an impressive effort, was somewhat let down by its lack of user-friendliness. Taking down your forums for a week starting the day the game was made available has to be one of the stupidest release decisions I’ve ever heard of. And now that the forums are back up, there is still virtually no useful information for new players or anyone else available - a good mod let down by its community (including the developers) it seems to me. They’ve probably driven away the majority of their user base already.

The only mod I can consider to be not that much fun is Dear Esther. There are no guns in the mod, only a voice talking to you and exploration to be done. It’s like Oblivion. On the other hand, there are good mods like Minerva (which is my favorite one so far), Riot Act, Awakening, and Rock 24. I know that Black Mesa will be up there with Minerva.

Does a game need guns or heavy violence to be good, and how in any way is it like Oblivion? Dear Esther was great because it was a change of pace from every other mod out there the concept is great, the setting is eerie and the voice acting was perfect. Don’t bad mouth a mod just because you found it boring because you can’t spend two minutes without shooting something in a game.

Haha, I agree. The one that stands out for me is “Awakening.” And to think that their ModDB profile at one time claimed they had “professional voice acting…”

The reason portal prelude has sucky voice acting was because the creator was French I think and has bad english.

no the translation was fine its the presentation it was done entirely with a text-to-speech program so it sounds horrid.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
