Is ESET NOD32 a good anti virus? I use it, it doesn’t slow down my shitty laptop and i haven’t been raped by a virus yet.
Whats a good anti virus software to use?

If your using one your happy with… why ask?
Well i am happy with it but the thing is i want someone to prove to me in this thread that theres a better anti virus than NOD32 other there.
someone is able to tell you about heuristics, emulation and bases, but why did you think that someone’d want to prove you something, if you put it like this?
Apparently the one you have currently.
Just asking, is Norman Antivirus a good one? All it has done so far is give craploads of false positives.
I use AVG Free Edition. Doesn’t seem to cause any significant slowdown. Its virus-handling capabilites seem decent enough, although I am not in the habit of downloaded viruses so I’m maybe not the best person to make a judgement on that.
^This. Best Anti-Virus I’ve come across yet.
I use Common Sense 2010 beta.
I use Avast.
Its good.
I stopped using AVG after it screwed my computer up. Now I use Avira Antivir. Its free, fast, and maybe a bit over-cautious.
Common Sense is all you need. Plus AVG for peace of mind.
I’m thinkin of gettin Bullguard gamers edition B), does anyone here have it?
I use nod32 as well. Very lightweight.
I think antivirus software is useless, spyware gets installed at the same rate, viruses can still get in, hackers can still get in, your stuff can still get stolen. Firewalls, however are alot more important. I just started using ZoneAlarm pro on my server, and got very good results. I use pro version because it’s much more advanced than the free version, I can block/allow pretty much any traffic I want.
I take it you still got it free though, eh sersoft?
This is absolute nonsense. It is true that Antivirus will not prevent every threat. However, the most common threats are handled, so unless you are engaging in high risk stuff, then you shouldn’t have a problem. Even though I usually don’t trust an antivirus program to truly remove viruses, they can often block them in the first place. If not, they at least warn you when there is a virus/trojan running on your computer so that you know that you need to reinstall/reformat, which is really the only way to be sure you’re safe. Without antivirus you could have key loggers and all sorts of other garbage running without ever knowing it. Now web safe practices are the surest way to prevent viruses, assuming pages you visit haven’t been hijacked and you don’t do p2p sharing.
I prefer Kaspersky.
You’re right, his post is nonsense. If you have ABSOLUTELY NO common sense.
The only way you’d have crap on your computer is if you’re blatantly stupid and download pr0n from sketchy sites and open unwanted attachments…
I said safe surfing is the surest bet. However on Windows OS Antivirus IS common sense. When you say use common sense and then say you don’t use antivirus, you contradict yourself. Now if we were talking about Linux or maybe even Mac, then I might agree with you entirely.
I do use antivirus, but it’s never found anything, and I wouldn’t be overly worried about it if suddenly died.
