Geez, Oda just flipped everybody on their head with this new One Piece chapter. Still waiting on the next HXH and Berserk chapter, not sure when either of them are going to be released.
I find one piece, naruto, bleach, soul eater etc. etc. to be horrible anime.
They are all rehash scenarios over and over again. And damn there are so many fillers. I can’t stand having to watch a story that lasts for almost a decade…all they do is milk the series.
I guess I like my anime to be a little more convincing when it comes to plot.
Most of the anime in the present are horrible…
My favorite anime is Monster and I have yet to see an anime with as much quality production.
Great plot, deep characters, fitting audio, nice animation etc. etc.
Monster even introduced me to some good music.

Other anime I have enjoyed are;
Infinite Ryvius
Berserk
Maison Ikkoku
Master Keaton
Legend of the Galactic Heroes (fits rights next to Monster as my top fav for anime)
Full Metal Panic
GTO
Those are a few that pop in my head at the moment but there are many more.
Naruto and Bleach, sure, they start getting milked and turn terrible. Haven’t seen Soul Eater. One Piece has been going for 10 years (probably more like 12 actually) and is still amazing. I mean, you’re going to have some clichés in Shounen manga but One Piece does an exceptional job at handling it.
One Piece is one of the few that have been able to create an interesting world with loads upon loads of characters that all have a unique personality. Right now in the manga they’re really close to having explored half the world, and even then there are still hundreds of islands that have yet to be explored.
And for those who say that One Piece isn’t serious, it isn’t primarily a dark series but right now… two major characters have died one after another (taking the death toll up to a whopping 4 deaths in present time, though much more if you include flashbacks) and the main character has lost consciousness after watching someone very close to him die in his arms.
This post will probably be ignored but I hate it when One Piece is lumped in with the likes of Bleach and Naruto.
Edit: There aren’t any fillers in the manga .
I could never get into One Piece.
It’s wasn’t believable to me and when characters died I didn’t really care. The characters were to wacky for me to connect to.
Also there are too many fillers. They need to just end the story and stop prolonging it. No story should be that long it just becomes stretched until there is no quality left in it.
I used to like Detective Conan but they have decided to take the same route of more fillers than story. Once they finish the series they should release a special edition that only contains episodes essential to the plot…
Monster was 74 episodes long and had no fillers what so ever.
That is how a story should be.
If you read the manga there are no fillers. Plus you could always just skip them. One Piece has maintained its quality all the way through its 12 years, I mean it set it up from the beginning that is was going to be long. Plus, surprises upon surprises keep coming up, like people supposedly loyal to the Government helping the main characters, or those 2 deaths I mentioned earlier. Those 2 deaths were the first confirmed on-screen deaths that have taken place in the current story of the manga.
The quality did sort of falter during the CP9 arc but quickly regained it.
Well I just can’t get into such ridiculous plot scenarios with unconvincing characters.
And the story cannot hold my attention…so it being long is worse.
I am more of an old school anime/manga person although every now and then something good comes out. It has just been non existent in the last few years.
So far nothing has triumphed Monster or atleast in my opinion. Legend of the Galactic Heroes comes close. That series had one of the most realistic characters Yang Wen-Li. Too bad he died, but at least the death was something realistic instead of over cliched heroic deaths that never would happen in real life.
Aren’t all these dark themes in One Piece censored by 4kids?
I’ll admit that it’s a great retelling of Lord of the Flies in space and an interesting political commentary, but if you like satisfactory endings prepare for disappointment.
I don’t really mind what happened at the end.
Some anime do have bad endings but I enjoy them as a whole.
Like Berserk…
Also when one of the main characters Yang Wen-Li dies in Legend of the Galactic Heroes I stopped watching it for a while then went back to it.
He died in the dumbest way but when I thought about it I realized in real life people usually don’t die in a meaningful way so why should they in anime.
And yah 4kids censored those dark themes in One Piece.
That is another thing about the anime that doesn’t fit.
It tries to be funny but then a second later there is this an awkward change to being serious which just doesn’t fit.
Funimation has One Piece now and is currently releasing uncut 13 episode sets. I think they’re just past the end of Alabasta right now. They’re doing a fantastic job at it too. Pretty much every voice fits perfectly. The openings and endings are kind of hit or miss, We Are!, Towards the Light, and Bon Voyage are all really well done but Believe isn’t all that good. I hope they dub my favorite opening, Map of the Heart, good. It’s the one after Bon Voyage.
And I seem to be the only person in here that reads manga. Berserk hasn’t ended yet, the anime stopped at around the twelfth volume (there’s over 30 now) or so, pretty much everything up to there is one long flashback.
Nah I read manga. Berserk has been going for that long since the creator releases a new chapter maybe every other month or longer.
I liked the flash back plot and would rather have had it end there.
The current manga I have been reading are Vagabond and Blade of the Immortal. Vagabond is still good but a little slow in the present and Blade of the Immortal feels a little bit prolonged.
Chobits, i fucking love that anime, also Elfen Lied, that’s a great one too.
Elfen Lied was fun. Nyu was so cute.
Lucy on the other hand, I wouldn’t want to cross her the wrong way… :fffuuu:
I loved the story line and characters in Elfen Lied, but the constant fanservice pissed me off. Other than that, it’s a great anime.
I just finished Blood +. It’s a decent anime, but there’s something I don’t like about it. I can’t figure out what it is, but I just can’t enjoy it nearly as much as FMP or Code Geass. That said, Hagi is the most badass character in any anime I have ever seen.
I know, nyu is cute and lucy is…well, plus she had the best english dub if you ask me.
Neon Genisis Evan-fucking-gelion
Best anime ever. Also total mind fuck. :retard:
If by best you meant worst, and a boring mind-fuck. I couldn’t stand that one at all. I wish I hadn’t bought the box set sight-unseen.
I actually liked that anime…up until episode 19 or so, when stuff started to get crazy. It happened cause their budget started getting tight and they couldn’t afford to do a lot of animation anymore, and also because the director, Hideaki Anno, was going through a rather tough depression. So the ending turned out insane, and alienated a lot of fans who, like me, got into it because of the giant robot action. Anno even included some of the death-threat-hate-mail he got into some of the final episodes. But yeah, it sucked balls.
End of Evangelion turned out the exact same way, though that time there really just was no excuse.
Actually, you are correct. However, I feel that the entire series is extremely psychological, not just the ending, farthermore it actually makes sense if you piece everything together properly. The reason I like it so much is because the characters developed so well and by the end I actually gave a shit and wanted to see how it turned out. Also theme song is awsome.
I didn’t say it didn’t make sense, or that the characters weren’t developed. I just hated every minute of watching those fully developed characters. There might have been a moment where I liked one of them for a bit, but it couldn’t have lasted all that long because I didn’t care about any of them by the ending.
That’s cool, everyone has their own likes and dislikes.
