GoldSrc Hammer Editor

I’ve got Hammer (or Worldcraft, if you prefer) version 3.5, and I’m unable to select objects or faces using the 3D viewport. I’m sure this is possible so I figure there must be something wrong. I’ve made sure my graphics drivers are up-to-date more than once, and I’ve got the same problem on my desktop and laptop so I’ve no idea.

Do any GoldSrc mappers have advice for me?

Newer drivers make it hard/impossible to use Hammer 3.4/3.5, either revert to an older driver, or find a driver that will allow it to run. There’s more info here: https://www.svencoop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34643

WEll there are a lot of people out there which have this Problems. I did not read the wohle Thread but maybe this can help you: https://www.chatbear.com/unity2/12/913,1188737745,4371/1054507?v=flatold

This guys have the same Problems. Hope it helped

Cheers guys, I’ll have to roll back my versions on my laptop. Still want my main PC to handle latest stuff!

EDIT: Incidently, does anyone on these forums properly mod for GoldSrc? I can’t find any hints online about creating weapons, or changing anything about the game itself, would love some advice on stuff like that.

Sorry im only mapper and not good in modding

Oh great, I’ve just found out those drivers that last worked with Hammer were only built for XP/Vista, and I’m on 7! I really don’t have to revert to XP do I?

The 3D selection bug is brought on by ATi not supporting that particular version of OpenGL properly. The drivers should work for Windows 7, but don’t hold me to it.
Also, for tuts on mapping, and some modeling and coding, check out TWHL. There are a few coders who might be able to give you tips, plus an archive of the old VERC tutorials, which have weapon coding. You’ll need to download the HL SDK and know a bit about C++ first, though.

Ok cheers. I installed Vista’s 7.8 ATI drivers, but that didn’t do any good. Damn, I’ve never gotten the hang of C++! I’ve worked with C, C#, Basic, VBScript, Java, Javascript, Assembler, VHDL and Haskell! Just can’t get my head around C++ for some reason.

I’ve found C++ to be strangely easy to me, really. But that’s probably because parts of it are used in other programs i use.

Thanks JeffMOD, I found the solution to my Hammer bug on the TWHL forums!

:awesome:
Glad to hear. Hope you churn out some nice maps soon.

Thanks, but I’m actually focussed more towards texture creation. I just needed Hammer to apply them to maps to see how they look. Also it would be handy if I ever work out how to code my own weapons! I’m still trawling through TWHL but haven’t found a single tutorial on it yet.

Click on the VERC Archive sidebar, there are a few there. Alternatively, click on the link above to get there directly from here.

Ah, I found a couple, cheers. I see what you mean about needing C++ knowledge!
