Probably about as entertaining to sit and read through too.
Maybe it was the decades old translation I read of it that made it such a chore. It was a paperback from the 60s or 70s I think. I’m used to being the person that loves books others can’t get through, like the Silmarillion or Frank Herbert’s later Dune novels.
Hey the Iliad wasnt bad, nor was the Odyssey.
like I said before why not like the strider cannon in Smod Origanal. They get electrified with a disentigrated look with zero gravity, then explode.

Like this ^^^
Edit: well maybe not as an explosive AOE but whatever the beam touches.
Perfect, I actually like how when you watch a strider canon closely, on an actual strider, you can see that light is slightly warped.
Remember it share the same ammo as Tau cannon?
True, but one could kill you with radiation sickness, or by nuking the hell out of you.
You know how in District 9 when someone kills another with the alien weapons, they explode into a red gibby mess with blood splattered on the walls?
THAT’S how the Gluon Gun should kill people!
Oh, and we should all accept each other no matter how different we all are, la dee da.
That’s uranium. Does it look ignitable?
Pure magnesium doesn’t look ignitable either.
Anyway yay for being devil’s advocate
Honestly, id just be happy knowing theres still a gun-cannon like thing that shoots what looks like a blue tornado and kills people practically instantly. I mean really, while your playing black mesa, are you really gonna be constantly thinking about how Uranium disentegrates people and all this science mumbo-crap. This really picky stuff is whats gonna delay the game delayed… i think… so just let the devs do there job guys. No matter how much you make these threads about the smallest stuff its still gonna be great regardless of the way NPC’s die.
That don’t look like no Dan Aykroyd I’s ever seen.
The aim of this mod is to stay true to the original Half Life, so the Gluon Gun should simply obliterate enemies as it previously did. Liquification may be too much for implementation this late into development and disentegration doesn’t seem to convey the power of the weapon as well as gibbing does.
On a side note I believe the gluon gun removes the bonds between the target’s molecules, vapourising them.
wait, wut?
You just said that you believe the gluon gun works in a method that should cause vaporization, yet you feel that disintegration, the act of utterly destroying an object to the most extreme limits of what is possible, doesn’t convey the power of something that only breaks it into maybe half a dozen pieces?
No, I’m marking you down as a vote for disintegration. Saying that “we should stay true to HL1” isn’t valid in these circumstances. This is no different than Black Mesa adding in female scientists. HL1 didn’t have female scientists, yet Black Mesa added them in order to be more logical/realistic/interesting. Same thing should easily apply here.
I vote for the District 9 style instagib.
I vote for gibbing of some sort.
