bscly, i need to know how to fix this glossy model, im mixing.
Just say it’s from the glass universe.
Are you sure it’s glossy in-game? Try ticking the ‘normal maps’ box and seeing if it becomes less shiny.
Otherwise you need to read up more on specular maps…
Yeah, that might just be the model viewer. That’s happened to me with models before, but they end up looking fine in game.
nope, look the same in the game, but they seem to have abs now.
EDIT: it won’t let me click the normal maps box for more then a split second, in which i see no change
Is your specular map completely white?
Do you have a normal map?
yes I do
i fixed the model viewer, turns out THAT was the specular map, but it’s still glossy in the game.
crap, now they are shinier
Is your spec map in the alpha channel of your normal map? Is the spec map inverted?
I said if I do anything in modelviewer/total commander it wont do fuck in the game.
how bout this, I delete the spec map, just need to know what It’s called
Deleting the specular map would not help
well then, what would?
Don’t ask me to do all this fancy model editing shit, i just have the model viewer and total commander.
(I_I)
With the little info you’ve given us, there’s little advice we can give.
It has nothing to do with model editing, though.
Give this a read:
https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/$envmapmask
Basicly you want your spec map to look like this:
If your mask is buried in the alpha channel, it needs to be inverted first.
Didn’t I just say I have no editing programs whatsoever?
Invert the map? How?
I am not a expert, actually far from it, I can’t even open VMT/VTF’s
Then how did your spec map get fucked up?
Propbably an engine/MV problem then. Dunno.
