Get Black Mesa on Steam! We can do it!

How do you even know that?

Load page to check Greenlight, says 11%

refresh the page: 37%

refresh: 11%

etc.

Strange.

I feel kind of bad for Dream ( because of the current Greenlight vote war). It was fairly high up before Black Mesa came along and now it’s seemed to decline… somehow. It looks really cool, and far better than Slender Source IMO.

That last bit is not really saying much, is it. :stuck_out_tongue: I already considered upvoting it but I’m holding out on upvoting anything until BM comes through.

Without asking for it, I got stuck with Friday off. So I get to stare at a download bar all day. Whoopeee!

Here is some new/revised math, muthafuckaz:

3.03GB @ average of 2.0MB/s = 25.25 minutes

3.03GB @ average of 1.5MB/s = 33.66 minutes

3.03GB @ average of 1.0MB/s = 50.50 minutes

So, if torrents work out great crosses fingers and I get an average of 1.5MB/s, I should be playing BMS well before noon (eastern) on Friday… me likey that math!

Not sure where I got 3.5GB… I could have sworn…

And Dr. K, I kind of assumed you were in Russia or something, and was going to come up with something like “In America, you download BMS… but in Soviet Russia, BMS downloads you…”

But you appear to live in UK… oh well… glad you are not in Russia, I guess

what if the game not accepted to steam until releasing time. it needs source sdk 2007, it’s on steam but game is not? how will that work out

Gentlemen (and lady, should there be one)… do read through earlier posts… we have covered the torrents stuff and mirrors thoroughly…

But to recap: many of us plan to do torrent, as many of us expect that to be the safest (bet), fastest and most efficient means of getting BMS as quickly as possible come Friday… Go get yourself uTorrent, install, spend 5min mastering, practice downloading something (does not need to be anything illegal), be sure to click PEERS tab so you understand what is going on and how connections to peers works… and be ready for torrent links to be here on Friday. And if you are new to torrents, what you need to understand is that when you are torrenting (as it were), you are part of a download machine… the more peers connected, the more powerful it is, and thus download speeds, for the most part, will blow your fucking mind… you may actually end up getting dl speeds that you were unaware your connection was capable of… this has been my experience.

On Steam downloads I usually get around 2.5 - 3 MB/s, and torrents 1.3 MB/s. I can be patient enough for Black Mesa, only about an hour wait.
Now that I think of it, was it ever confirmed torrents would be an available option? I’d imagine even if not by now they’d decide to seeing as it seems to be everyone’s favorite distribution method.

One of the Site administration stated that he thought a torrent was in the plans.

You know, that is a pretty good question… and I have not seen any discussion of that. However, I would guess that even though BMS has an installer (exe) it is still being installed into steamapps etc and using sdk2007…

Yeah, but you forget that there are tons of assholes out there that cap their upload speed at 1.0KB/s because “boohoo my adsl line get’s shit poor dl speed when someone dl from me”.

Hopefully that is not the case with Black Mesa, and hopefully, most of
Black Mesa fans really wan’t to help in spreading this to everyone.

I have 100Mbit so I don’t care…I will be distributing this as long as I can.

I dont know how much speed I have exatly, but things can come down fast enough for me. Less than 6 days now till the big moment…

It is my contention that if BMS is on Steam by Friday, and VALVe pops the cork on this mofo at 10:47am Eastern, their servers are going to be under major stess… and many, many folks are going to be wishing that they were torrenting it instead. Meanwhile, us torrenting folk will be smokin’ all of you.

:pirate:

If BMS gets on Steam i believe it will be Shit Popular… think about it… its Half Life 1, the one game that started it all, Remade into a sexy new half life… for free! Even as popular as TF2 (dont kill me dont kill me dont kill me)

The 18 one seems to be a glitch, the right one should be 38.
Not sure what caused the glitch, though.

If for some reason Steam accepts Black Mesa before release, would it automatically be released onto steam rather than the 14th?

No - it won’t be released before the 14th.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
