General Xen Chit-Chat Thread

That’s why it’s called the Borderworld. It’s the border between all worlds! The space between spaces.

I just realized the unforeseen consequences for half life. I always thought that was just the title of a level, but its emplied that g-man said it as that happened. I always thought it was the xen invasion, but now that I think about it what if the consequence was not of the xen invasion but of gordon causing the combine invasion by killing the Nihilanth, the xen races where not that strong and Nihilanth was a slave to the combine but some how holding them back. with that dead and the gate now open… gordon caused the 7 hour war.

I would say that Dr. Breen caused the 7 Hour War, to be honest. Gordon was just a pawn. It would’ve happened whether Gordon pushed the sample into the analysis port or not. He would’ve just been fired and someone else done the job. No, the resonance cascade was not your fault. It was Breen’s. Remember the two conversations prior to the test:

“Ah, Gordon. Here you are. We just sent the sample down to the Test Chamber.”
“We’ve boosted the anti-mass spectrometer to 105%. Bit of a gamble, but we need the extra resolution.”
“The Administrator is very concerned that we get a conclusive analysis of today’s sample. I gather they went to some lengths to get it.”
“They’re waiting for you Gordon, in the test chamber.”

“If you follow standard insertion procedures, everything will be fine.”
“I don’t know how you can say that. Although I will admit that the possibility of a resonance cascade scenario is extremely unlikely. I just don’t think–”
“Gordon doesn’t need to hear all this! He’s a highly trained professional! We’ve assured the Administrator that nothing will go wrong.”

It’s entirely the fault of “Dr. Breen, your old Administrator” and that you shouldn’t get Alyx’s “dad started on Dr. Breen”.

Remember that Eli doesn’t blame Gordon at all, despite being at ground zero. It’s all Breen.

I don’t know if even Breen and the rest of the Anomalous Materials team had any clear idea what was going to happen. They were aware that something dangerous might happen with the AMS in that configuration, but give no indication of being aware of the Xen sample’s actual properties- there’s a big difference between “we might just fry a million-dollar piece of equipment” and “we might just wreck a ten-billion-dollar facility and kill like three thousand staff” levels of acceptable risk.

However, some of the whiteboards in BM do mention other scientists in the lab had observed unusual behavior in the specimen and concluded that it could react dangerously, and just in general that multiple issues regarding the AMS and its support systems were known but not being addressed- which is how a lot of engineering disasters do indeed end up happening.

Any idea what map was used here as background? Could it be Vortigaunt factory?

I’m not sure, but it kinda look like Half-Life Source, I might be wrong, but the way lighting looks and the textures on the right make me think that, but yeah, I think it’s the sort of Alien Grunt factory

contrast upping ruins the image and makes it look worse anyone got the original to post.

ah ok so the things in the back are green, hmm looks like a factory floor but not anything like the one from half life, the green things are either vorts zapping something or some sort of machine, and there is an orb in the back… wonder what that is?

Tweeked this picture in Lightroom a bit… I think it´s a factory from interloper and those green glowing things are probably the barrels that contain manufactured alien grunts inside them.

Is this secret, exclusive Xen media?

It kinda just looks like the factory from HL:S though, but it’s too fuzzy and too dark to really tell anything

I am sure in this Video is something hiding:

Huh, I doubt there’s anything to big in there, but watching at 0.25, I think I saw something when the screen goes static. Just before the G-man appears. Looks like an HEV arm or something…

after a frame by frame, nothign but g-man and the black mesa logo is hidden in the static.

9seed, that was just distortion on the glock image.

Yeah, that makes the most sense.

That screenshot behind those HEV Suits is definitely Xen…

It is the factory… (I think it was one of the maps that got accidentally leaked back then…?).

I hope this is a hint, I want Z.E.V blackmesa retweeted this by the way that is why I am saying this.

ZEV

can be spawned with

npc_create npc_zombie_HEV

currently is bugged though, damage to head does not hurt it, seriously head shot it kills the headcrab the the HEV zombie keeps going until you kill it with body shots. Also it has a working flashlight.

Oh and the one screenshot with the melee A-grunt was me seeing if that still ends up in an animation loop of you spawn it. the answer is yes.

EDIT

https://imgur.com/a/oFIrT

spawned a few to see how the AI reacts to them, uh the hecu grunts instantly threw grenades all 3 of them that where in the area. which was just an epic reaction for something they are not likely to ever fight outside of spawning.

And while I know it is a bug, Can the devs please leave in the zombie staying alive after the headcrab is killed, like make it so once it truly dies a bunch of baby headcrabs come from the corpse. Cause this would be evil, to have a torso HEV crawling at you only for you to head shot it and have it survive, upon death 1-2 baby headcrabs burst out of it.

Though that would likely be to much work as it would require animations or a torso gib spawn for them similar to the snarks only proximity.

Now this is really cool, nice to see that the devs are increasing variety of enemies on Xen
