I really don’t think any additional explanation is at all required, but that’s still a pretty neat idea. Might use it myself in something.
Maybe these crystals have organic origin, and therefore are called crystals because of “growth” ability.
OMG, that would make so much sense!
I do not think the literal penis monster should ever leave concept.
We were able to see some of the entities added for Xen- things like suicide Houndeyes. “Mr. Friendly” was not among them, which I honestly wasn’t too torn up about because aesthetically that enemy is very different from all of the other Xenian creatures we’ve seen and I’m not sure what gameplay role it would actually serve.
It could be something that was made…you know…saffron colored
if there is any wildlife I would like to see from cut half life things it would be these
flocking floaters
https://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Flocking_Floater
they would be a good ranged enemy weak in health but swarm in numbers. with a group likely being taken out with one explosive and some aim.
sukabat
https://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Stukabat
Mostly as I can see them as a hazard the player can think their way around, you have 10 of them on the ceilling your RPG or GL will only get about 6 and they are to fast to shoot with out wasting ammo, how to get by. crouch and stay slow, if you alert them crowbar a headcrab so they land and eat it thus ignoring you.
Archer fish
https://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Archer
because this xen obviously has water, and a ranged fish would be evil.
I feel like killing the floaters with explosives or the shotgun would actually be weirdly satisfying, which would be nice.
There was an enemy in the 3D Metroid games called a Shriekbat that sounds pretty similar to the stukabat. There, the best way to deal with them was to spot them before they spotted you and pick them off from range. I think something like that would fit with the generally slower-paced explorational gameplay of the Half-life games.
I actually really like the idea of an enemy that would primarily encourage you to shoot into the water, as opposed to the ichies who the game seems to want you to dive in and engage up close.
yep that is the point, one of the things I think is always funny is how people look at cut stuff and wonder why it was cut, I Can tell you why the xen stuff was cut, xen was rushed the amount of cut content for xen is twice that of the rest of the game hell maybe even three times that.
What did the base game have cut, well a few minor weapons, and hecu grunts with miniguns, what did xen have cut, half the enemies, msot of xen its self, a lot of structures, and a lot of gameplay mechanics which is why half lifes xen feels so unfinished. How many things do you see in xen once and never again, a lot.
The biggest thing I hope is that crowbar collective make the vort rebellion a thing as that was the biggest story thread that was cut from xen, and they still used it in half life 2.
Just to add to this crystal discussion, the reason why the xen crystal is completely opaque is because the Source engine is not all that great with dealing with translucency. I bet that the devs would have made it semi-transparent if the engine allowed it without the bugs and glitches that come with it.
I remember a few puzzle maps on HL2 M using that bug, you had to use a transparent prop to view another prop which was invisible with out it. was a pain in the ass when some one kept grav gunning the prop we needed into other players to knock them into the pit.
I remember that I had asked Chon at the end of 2016 that whether they would add the removed NPCs to new Xen, he said they had no plans to do so at that time.
See this:
Xen Timeline, at the 85th floor.
But I think they should have changed their minds after 2 years now. After all, security zombies and HECU zombies are not included in the original Half-Life. I’m glad to see these Xenians back to the game.
Yes, it is ridiculous a game that you goes to another planet, which There’s only three races of enemies.
Counting headcrabs, bullsquids, tentacles, houndeyes, and the sapient Xenians there’s five; nine if you consider controllers, grunts, slaves, and gargantuas as separate species; eleven if you include the zapper and stabber plants as enemies.
I thought Xen was just a staging point for the attack and not the real home world of any of the species.
there is some native wildlife on xen basicly anything that flies mostly just the manta’s in half lifes none cut thing, but chum toads, boids, sukabats, flocking floaters and a few other cut wildlife where native most plant life seen there is native.
As for the xen military they are not native in fact they are all creatures that where running from the combine, the vorts where the first they where then in slaved by the final boss of the game and his controllers. Note that the final boss has combine tech on him as he escaped while being used.
The A-grunts where grown so they are technically from xen but they are a manufactured race. (think they where made using vort and controller DNA)
The onlything that the lore through books like raising the bar and word of good sources doesn’t explain is hive hands and snarks.
In that thread he just says they aren’t adding any new Xen creatures. His answer about restoring cut enemies (#2) is “I’d rather not spoil it.” That is, we’ll have to wait and see!
The best way to describe what Xen is, is that basically it’s an inter-dimensional train station where everyone goes to be able to go to other dimensions. After the combine started wrecking his slave empire, the Nilihanth was forced to go hobo and hide in Xen hoping to evade the combine by eventually finding another dimension to conquer. That’s what happened with the Black Mesa Incident. Black Mesa inadvertently ripped a hole into the fabric of the universe allowing Nihilanth to send a couple trains through to try and conquer Earth, but for some reason the G-man had other plans and set it up for Gordon to be able to kill the Nihilanth.
