GAWKER MEDIA ACCOUNTS COMPROMISED

https://kotaku.com/5712633/commenting-accounts-compromised-+±change-your-passwords

Shit just got real,4CHAN attacked the Gawker media database and stole over 1.3 millions accounts,if you have an account on any Gawker media sites (Kotaku,Gizmodo,Lifehacker,Io9,and some others) change its password now, along with the password of accounts where you used the same username/password.

Were they just screwing around or did they have a reason?

Since when does 4chan need a reason to do anything?

Well they occasionally have one, so I’m just wondering.

I hope I don’t have an account there, I use the same password practically everywhere. :fffuuu:

They have one: For teh lulz

Just downloaded the database, found myself in there. I didn’t even realize I had an account.

My password is encrypted and my email isn’t listed, so they have nothing to track me down with, aside from my name (I used my actual name, not my usual username). I changed several of my passwords, and so I should be in the clear now.
Not happy though, even though I’ve been meaning to get around to changing all my passwords.

Also, download for the full database: https://www.mediafire.com/?gk9ao6km607l6xp

Here’s an easier to read version:

Oh wow, this isn’t the first time they have been hacked either.
Last time the people who hacked it also managed to decrypt a heap of the passwords too, and get the full source code to the site.

i noticed this line:
| ftp.valvesoftware.com | Portal2Trailer | umonsterr |

Unknown paste ID.

I doubt I’m a member of any of their sites, and I’m too lazy to download the database. Someone tell me if I’m on there :stuck_out_tongue:

Thats what they did this time. Decyrpted around 200 000 passwords I believe and they also have the source code in this release.

Wow, I hate 4chan so much…I don’t even have an acct on any of those, but 4chan is just retarded.

What makes you say that?

I actually lol’d

as long as my porn site account is safe… I have nothing ta worry 'bout. Who is /kotaku.com?

Weird, one of my email addresses is in there but with a username I’d never chose.

wow what a huge database

I bet they released it because there’s nothing of value left even if you decrypt all the passwords. :meh:

nothing of value? A good percentage of people use the same password for many accounts… with a nickname, an email address and a password, you can get ahold of a lot of information.

Good luck decrypting them without the key.
