Did you pirate your copy?
Nope
“Unfortunately-named news site Gamepron is reporting that Mr Garry Newman, creator of Garry’s Mod, has gone and done something clever: he introduced an error to his game, an error which only affects pirates. It was a trap! Said pirates even turned up on the G-Mod forums to discuss why their game didn’t work. Reporting the error even revealed their Steam id.”

If your copy is not pirated, perhaps you should try moving all of your addons out of the gmod folder. Sometimes addons f-up the game and need to be removed.
what he said
No, I have the exact same problem. And I didn’t pirate my copy either.
Fucking bullshit, the ONE day I wanted to make a Machinima, Garry pulls his shit.
Game wont even come the fuck on without crashing – so gay.
My garrys mod is SO gay, caught it trying on a rainbow codpiece the other day.
This is annoying especially as i want to play TTT, but I’m glad to see its is not a problem with wine.
Phew, apparently it works now – installing again.
Somehow the combination of this and the Piracy stuff got me pissed. Because trying to explain this to Steam support would be like playing soccer under water.
no way steam support could help anyone with this anyways. Only garry can.
edit: unless you are talking about getting a refund. well good luck.
