Gargantua stomp effect

The Gargantua in Half-Life 1 had a stomp effect that sent a red beam through the ground, killing anyone in its path. I think Valve just didn’t have the resources, but intended for this stomp to create a ripple, or some kind of crack in the earth (think earthquake) that uprooted and killed everyone around the Gargantua or in its direct path. What’re you guys doing with this? The effect could even be replaced with simply crushing a patron into mush, similar to the way Striders worked, though obviously less piercey, more crushy.

I’d imagine they would keep the stomp effect closer to the original rather than changing it just based off proofless speculation.

Is that a question or a suggestion?

Probably both. I’d imagine the devs have made some improvements to this effect, tho I don’t think they will have gone too far away from the intent of the original, which always seemed to me to be some kind of energy attack. I forget exactly which HUD icon came up when you were hit by that…

A sick and twisted combination of both, there IS a question mark in there;

I doubt adding cool effects will make it any different to the original attack… So that’s not really a feasible argument against it. I’m sure they made it pretty awesome anyway… so let’s just trust them on this.

Just look at what they did with the houndeye attack. It looks 10 times better than the original one, so I’m 100% sure they will make this looks badass too.

^agree (madmax winz the interweb!!)

No HUD icon comes up. It’s probably an unidentified alien energy or something.

An realistic effect on unrealistic alien, sound REALLY good to me.

I think it was more like a sort of heat attack, so a red beam could be replaced with enhanced fire in a more tube-like shape.

But if actual ground popped up like in prototype, that would be cool.

You do realise that even the goldsrc engine could do fire and if the garg stomp was someting like that, valve could have done it or even remade it on HLS.
Some kind of energy beam is more plausible or earthcake (:lol  damage.

They could have done a lot more on HLS, but they didn’t.

:retard:

And here we are.

Thats kinda my point haha

Hell yea that looks awesome, but i have no idea what could they do to the gargs attack…

I’m sure they’re being fairly industrious with it.

They don’t know the truth about how lazy you all are. :stuck_out_tongue:

Let me hazard a guess. They removed the stomp attack completely? :frowning:

OR! Maybe they removed the garg entirely! There’s just a post-it note near where he would have appeared that reads:

“NPC_Gargantua will not be appearing today. He has a family emergency. Sorry for any inconvenience.”

If you ask me, I think the attack was MEANT to be a ground ripple/earthquake attack.
