gargantua roar dazing

ive thought about the first gargantua fight were u have to get the train working and kill the garg. i don’t remember how manny but i know its at least twice the gargantua roars so some part of the building colapses. so i thought, what if those roars also makes the player get dizzy like when i flashbang hits only without the flash only the motion blur

I kinda actually like the idea. But since anything like this wasn’t in HL, the chances of it being in are unlikely at this late stage of development. I may be wrong. I hope to be wrong.

I always thought it was him moving around and crashing in to the walls whilst fighting with the soldiers that caused parts of the structure to collapse…

Like in the end of the trailer?

nah. more of a big motion blur as he roars and a piece of the facility colapses

Well, I haven’t seen how the BM team are presenting it, but I always thought the ground stomp move the Garg has was a little lame and actually wouldn’t mind seeing something -like- this take it’s place.

Though, considering what they did with the Houndeye’s sonic attack, I’ll probably find myself immensely pleased with what they did with it.

The devs have mentioned in the past that the garg is gaining some new attacks and abilities; they’re probably pretty close to locked in at this point though, so suggestions might be moot.

I’d like to see something like the way the ground shakes increasingly as a Tank gets nearer to you in Left 4 Dead for the BM Gargs. Especially when they’re chasing you.

^ this.

yea me to. i thought he roared pretty often

Random question somewhat regarding this.

In the original Half Life, it’s not that difficult to kill the Garg with normal weapons (trip mines, grenades, MP5 grenades) when you initially see it in Power Play. However, even if you kill the Garg, stuff still shakes and collapses the rest of the level as you travel about. Any idea of this is addressed? I mentioned it here since the “roar” is what causes a lot of the random ceiling tiles falling and the like.

I can ask in the “All in the details” thread if you’d prefer, and I apologize if this has already been mentioned.

Well, there is still a full scale battle going on between Nihilanth’s forces and the Military on the surface, so I don’t think it’s quite that out of place. Although if raw_bean’s suggestion is implemented it would be more apparent to the player that this is what’s going on.

Has there been any discussion on whether the Garg will be able to be killed with normal weaponry?

Outside of explosives or the particle weapons, I think not.

I’ve always blown him with explosives in power up, it would be a shame to only kill him with electricity or air strikes.
since we could kill him like that before, why not now

That’s what I was saying. It’s possible to kill it with explosives, but not the straight up firearms ammunition and I’m sure it will remain that way.

oh, my bad.
Loved the intro on power up where grunts shoot at him and bullets don’t even scratch him. Perhaps the garg could kill every soldier differently so we can see all his attacks

I’d love to see him pick up one of the soldiers and crush him in those giant pinchers he has.

That sounds great! I would also like to see the gargantua step on some soldiers. That’s the way he always killed me, after all.

I’d still like to see it pick up a tram and hurl it at the soldiers before unleashing its other attacks. That way if the player happens to get caught in the toss it unlocks the “Tram’pled” achievement (granted an achievement system is implemented).
