Gaming PC for £295.45/$462.50

£295.45 or $$462.85 (Just went up 35c :meh: )
Cheapest Equivelent:
£439.95 or $688.70
Can anyone beat that? (Monitor, PSU, Keyboard, Mouse, DVD-Drive I’ll reuse)
Specs:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93Ghz
  • 500GB HDD (Largest I have ever owned)
  • ATI Radeon HD 5450 512MB
  • 1x 2GB DDR2 RAM (Maybe another one for my birthday present)

And my case is this:

I’m building a PC into a super sexy Mac case.

List of the parts bought:

Intel-Desktop-Board-DG31PR-micro-ATX-Serial-ATA-300-LGA775-Socket-Motherboard Computer-Memory-2GB-PC6400-DDR2-800Mhz-240pin-DIMM Intel-Core-2-Duo-E7500-2-93Ghz-LGA775-Socket-Processor-CPU Western-Digital-Caviar-Blue-WD5000AAKS-500GB-SATA-Internal-Hard-Drive SPEEDLINK-SL-8871-SRD-A-Stage-7-1-PCI-Sound-Card Sapphire-ATI-Radeon-HD-5450-512MB-PCI-Express-2-1-Graphics-Card

I am taking room for people to tell me where I can improve for little or no extra cost, originally it was £370 but the graphics card i wanted is now no-longer sold and i have to get the HD5450 which hasn’t come out yet in Jersey UK.

So any suggestions that will help me improve this please say, I want to play Black Mesa at at least 60FPS, I’m tired of the Orange Box being at 20FPS on full settings.

I don’t know much about computer parts, so any suggestions at all, hell, tell me this is shit if you think it is, just throw and suggestions at me.

(I can not buy RAM and get it for birthday and instead get the Intel Core 2 Duo E7600 3.06GHz CPU adding, £2 to the price)

I’m assuming that case can take an ATX mobo, but let me know if it only fits microATX, as I don’t really know.

Anyhow:

MSI 770-G45 - $60

Patriot Gaming Series 4GB DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 - $97

AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2.8GHz - $57

Western Digital RE3 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB - $80

XFX HD-577A-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 1GB - $160

$454 USD

Slight jump in HDD capability. Mobo and ram leave room to upgrade later, and you aren’t investing in outdated DDR2, which will come back to bite you if you look to upgrade. CPU is a bit of a step back, but the GPU is much more powerful. Since you didn’t post that you needed one, I didn’t add a PSU. The CPU isn’t going to limit you near as much as the 5450 was. These are newegg.com USD prices, so I’m betting the price will jump a bit in Europe, but it should still be close.

Guessing that you have a ATX Case:

1 X Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5300 “LGA775 Core 2” 2.60GHz overclocked to 3.20GHz (800FSB) - Retail
1 X Gigabyte GA-P43-ES3G Intel P43 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
1 X Corsair XMS2 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 TwinX Dual Channel
1 X Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler

And you have enough money left for your 5450 Graphics card

ATI Radeon HD 5450

Sub Total: £279.99 or $438.26

P.S: I didn’t add HDD (am thinking you might have one awready) Hence this way you get a better System on you budget  New HDD maybe for Birthday

I paid only for the mobo and ram (total 120$) everything else I got from people who upgraded or (unknowingly) downgraded.

Core 2 Duo E4500 2.2ghz @ 2.98Ghz
2x1gb ddr2 dual channel PC8500 @ 1066Mhz
430w thermaltake PSU
640GB WD SATA HDD
Geforce 8800GT pci-e 512mb GPU

What the fuck? I paid $1000 for something of lesser power just a year ago. I feel ripped off.

Yeah same here just about christmas time with sales on…

Current Spec:
Intel Core i7 860 2.80Ghz (overclocked to 3.6Ghz)
Asus Rampage II Extreme
Geil Black Dragon 6GB DDR3 1333MHz Triple Channel
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 275
Seagate Barracuda XT 2TB 64Mb Cache

Sub Total: £1005.96

and this dosen’t even include , soundcard, case etc…
My last upgrade for while thats for sure…

How much cheaper is it to put together your own pc?

that case is fucking ugly

Only a little bit, but you have complete control over parts and spec, thats the main draw
.

Well, I’ve picked all the parts of a computer on newegg, and it was roughly $200-$300 cheaper than a stock computer of comparable specs.

Truth

Truth.
I purchased my computer for $1128.21 CAD, and the closest equivalent I found was over $2,100.00.
Both prices after taxes
Yay for about 30% off sales.

In the same sense that Half-Life1 is fucking ugly compared to Half-Life2.

This case is from 1999, it made computers look “cool” to the general public, as opposed to dull-grey cases that had been around until then.

That doesn’t make the case any less ugly.

Ah touche.

But it does make it highly collectable.

EDIT: What if I sprayed + LED’d it’s ass like this:

you can see the plastic connections, the led is kinda wonky and its still ugly.

But when I do it I would do it right :meh:

This was a random image I grabbed (And hotlinked) from google.

Well, it definitely looks cooler than the turquoise one.

I would love to respray that Apple logo, and change it to the Aperture Science one. :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe spray white over the those things that look like handles to remove some of the plastic feel.
