Im running an AMD HD4850X2, and it runs Fallout 3 at 1680*1050 max settings at 70FPS w/o crossfire enabled, I run three monitors so the card was a natural choice for me, I dont have another PCIe x16 slot and there isnt much more space (or ventilation) in my custom case for another card, I should upload some photo’s of it when I get the chance, I went to this from an X1950 XTX and that set the record for me, since then I have been all over ATi/AMD Graphics cards, that reminds me, anyone want the old card? I havent used it for 4 months but it works fine last time I tried it, no crossfire adaptor tho, Any takers? You pay for postage. PM me. Or is this thing not allowed on the board?
Here is the card

Okay I reread it. Other than a couple clumsy finger typos it’s all accurate, and makes sense.
What’s the problem?
I heard the 4850x2 suffered from the same problems that 4870x2 did, which is also why ATI decided not to name the 5970 the 5870x2 because of the bad rep with x2 series, but i dont believe the 5970 suffers from any of the issues the 48xx x2 cards did, correct me if im wrong.
What issues would they be?
I havent had any major issues with it, except for one very scary POST one day!
Mainly driver issues, I dont know what exactly was the issue were with drivers since I haven’t owned an x2 card.
At the moment, I would go with ATI as well, for all the reasons max stated on the first page. But naturally, I’ll hang around and watch the many many pages of arguing
.
is the 8800GT considered old now? :X
Yes.
unfortunately that’s what i have but I’m getting a new graphic card for x-mass

Ahh yes, they have been solved now, I vaguely remember Vista BSODing quite regular in some games with CF enabled.
My ATI Radeon HD3650 can not adjust color settings (gamma, brightness, contrast and crapz) for 3D applications. Gotta use Third Party soft for it. And it turns off monitor randomly when in game, even if the card is pretty cold. Other than, works fine… nVidia is nVidia. I like it more.
Yeah, And some transparent textures in source games looks like shit.
This isn’t first hand, but I’ve heard people complain about fan speeds temperatures, and the noise of the fan when active.
There is of course the driver issues that ALL multi gpu set ups have, but the card itself, or even the manufacturers can be blamed fully for that.
I’ve always used Nvidia. I’ve never had any troubles with them and I quite like all the things they’re doing to push forward gaming such as PhysX, Stereoscopic 3D, and adding effects to games that originally don’t support them such as AO, Anisotropy, FSAA, Transparency AA, etc. with their control panel.
That’s not to say ATI is bad.
For each one of those things there is something opposing from AMD. I wish the two fucking companies could come to standards. Both trying to do their own way of things, and we don’t get a clear picture of where things will end up.
Personally I’m most excited to see implementation of tessellation in games.

That’s a directX 11 feature, not an ATI feature.
When Nvidia makes a DX 11 card, it will also be capable of the same.
Ya…I didn’t say anything about ATI or nvidia I said:
:brow:
Sorry.
I was thrown off by the statement of ATI having opposing technologies. I was expecting you to list something.
I have to give a point to NVIDIA only because I have an ATI card right now and I don’t think it works right. I have DX10 installed with the computer being completely compatible, but it causes all my games to crash and in the 2 years I’ve had the computer, I’ve gotten a lot of blue screens that all seem to go back to my video drivers on the card.
I’m staying with my geforce 8800GT until I have enough spare cash to buy a 5970.
wut card and when was the last time u updated ur drivers or catalyst?
