Games you wish you hadn't paid full price for

Well, I don’t think the game sucked, I enjoyed it – I just hate the direction it took. You could always read my post to find out why.

Note: I edit my posts for like… 15 minutes after writing them, so sorry if it changed.

Just because they took a different direction in Portal 2 it doesn’t mean it was a bad one.

I didn’t mean to say it was, I just said I didn’t like the direction it took. It was still one of the best games of that year, no doubt.

My post was to clarify that it did take a different direction; it wasn’t an attempt to make it seem like a bad game. I only hope that this doesn’t become a habit for Valve, though.

I say that completely on behalf of the next Half Life. After that, I don’t give a fuck what Valve does, lol.

I don’t feel it sucked, per se, but I felt that it really offered little over Portal. See, when I played Portal, I enjoyed the puzzles, and the interwoven story bridging them felt like it came smooth and naturally. However, with Portal 2…I don’t know, maybe my expectations were just different from what the game delivered. I felt like the puzzles, while well done, were too much like the old ones, and were now almost like obstacles to getting more story and jokes, which wasn’t all that great anyway. Plus, since the time spent thinking about the puzzles makes up the difficulty, there’s not really a way to increase or decrease it…as such I completed the game in what I felt was a really short time. Also, I think sending Chell back into Aperture Science made about as much sense as sending Gordon back into Black Mesa. I was really hoping to see a new environment, get out into the world, and do some REALLY awesome new things with portals. Instead, I was…solving test chambers again. Again, the game wasn’t bad at all - but it really was a puzzle game first, and I was hoping it would be more story-oriented this time.

OrderOfDagon makes valid points on the story as well. I agree with your assessment of DE:HR’s story too. It took me some headscratching and a couple playthroughs to get it straight in my head exactly what was going on. So not the best presentation, but I liked the story, and loved the gameplay. Someone was mentioning that certain playstyles were favored…I don’t really see that very much, except for the takedowns. I don’t understand why they needed energy in the first place, and why lethal ones were necessarily penalized. Other than that, everything’s a viable option - sneak around everyone, or shoot everyone (ok, so the pistol is ridiculously OP), or hack turrets to shoot everyone for you, or beat everyone up, or stun everyone…they all seemed to work good for me, especially since the AI is pretty dumb.

Just you saying that makes me like the game even less - regrettably.

How awesome would it have been to use a portal gun to drop objects on moving enemies, etc?

That would be so innovative…ughh! What could have been!

This thread has filled my body with bile and boiling blood as almost all of you spell paid wrong.

Welcome to the internet. Almost no one spells correctly.

Dead Island. I was very disappointed.

The game sucked a bit, but man, that game was goddamn funny in coop.

I paid full price for dead island and don’t regret it at all. I do however regret buying it’s pitiful ‘bloodbath arena’ DLC. it just sucks…

Well I didn’t pay full price for Deus Ex:HR, if I did I’d be mad. I have no idea what the heck is going on, It’s pretty obvious his girlfriend isn’t dead in the beginning, I mean seriously how does he assume she’s dead even though he didn’t see her die, wtf? I could see if they showed how she died or she faked her death and somehow coming back alive like J.C.Denton or some shit, but no all we get is a crappy cinematic of you coming alive with her voice and her face and what not, while your being auged. I haven’t beaten the game yet, I just got it for free ‘technically’ can someone please explain this to me my brain is starting to hurt. I don’t think there are any spoilers if you told me, as it’s VERY obvious that his GF is still alive.

Also, I think the gameplay and everything is good, but the story is terribly executed.

Welcome to Black Mesa, I’ve been here for about 5 years more than you have. I know that 95% of these people are fucking stupid but really, “paid” isn’t hard to spell.

If people had payed more attention in English class none of this would have happened. Shame.

Woah, calm down with the pointing fingers and name calling crap. No reason to get mad, and I know for a fact that less than 95% of these people aren’t stupid. Come on man, that’s the last thing we do at Black Mesa ‘loose our cool and fuck shit up’ everyone I met here is pretty calm, cool, and rational. No reason to get mad at em’, just ask them ‘would ya’ kindly’.

 I’m going to assume you were talking about one of your pet dogs. Because I don’t recall telling you what to do, nor do I recall being a female or a dog.

I would never speak to one of my pets in such a way.

lol, yeah right…

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
