The nearly hour-long podcast is live now if you’re interesting in hearing Newell talk through all of the details of how DOTA 2 will be free-to-play but different. He also chats quite a bit about their upcoming shooter Counter-Strike:Global Offensive, jokes (we think) about Ricochet 2 development and even answers some Half-Life questions.

Before you get too excited, the questions are more about narrative and character development across the series’ games. Literature geeks like us love this stuff, but if you’re just looking for Half-Life 3 details, don’t get your hopes up.

Just finished listening to it a few minutes ago and it was quite obvious that the Ricochet 2 jokes were a big metaphor for HL3.

All in all a very good interview with great questions and answers but the sound issues were quite distracting.

Yeah, the Ricochet 2 discussion was actually about the next HL game. It’s probably the first confirmation we’ve had since like '08 that they’re still plugging away at it, so that was kinda nice.

Overall really good interview. I thought the guys asked some really good questions and Gabe’s answers were great.

I’m happy Gabe may have said something about Half-Life 3. It makes a lot of sense. In that interview with Penny Arcade not too long ago, he talked about Valve always being late and he wanted to show a more final product off so that fans wouldn’t be annoyed about the game being delayed and such. It’s nice that there may be a light at the end of the tunnel. And I’m happy Gabe finally said a sort of hidden message to Half-Life fans letting them know that Half-Life 3 or Episode 3 or whatever isn’t just an idea, but a real, physical game.

Ahhh I got a good laugh with the Ricochet 2 bit, Pretty dern sure it was HL3 was the reference :stuck_out_tongue: also had a pretty good laugh with “is there anything that Origin is doing right now that you think its doing well?” “well… errr…ehh…” basically my thoughts as well

I like that Gave Newell doesn’t get arrogant about steam vs origin. Although he has every right to brag about how steam is better he doesn’t and retains his modesty.

From this podcast I learned that Gabe think everyone know the same things that he do seeing how he said “You know” all the time.
