What I learned from this interview:

  • EP3 is not next, there may not even be a hl3, Gabe is sick of it? :brow:
  • TF2 is just an experimental game.
  • People in Valve are geniuses… about the past.
  • GabeN gambled on the Internet when steam came!
  • Portal 2 is the best game EVAH made by Valve!
  • A guy in Valve was a prostitute and lots of the workers didn’t graduate.
  • Valve gets ideas from mods.
  • Mr. Striver needs to call 2000?
  • The games are more for people growing up in a world where technology is changing.
  • What’s for lunch at the school where the students interviewed from.
  • Experimenting with facebook?
  • Requirements for working in Valve is just made up! XD Just make a flash game…
  • The interview was useful for Gabe.

This actually reminds me of the LOK situation with Eidos. It was around the four year mark that people started saying “Maybe we won’t be getting a new LOK game.” Meanwhile, Eidos would continue to jerk their loyal fans around with “We love that series and might continue it.”

The last game came out in 2004 and we are still waiting.

There’s gotta be at least several people at Valve who want to work on Half-Life, so I figure we’ll get something eventually.

If they plan to link the portal and half life series, maybe they have to wait till Portal 2 is out before Ep3 makes sense.

Mossman did mention the Borealis which is connected in story to Aperture Labs. Perhaps after Portal 2 is played for a while they’ll release EP3 and Gordon will find a new shiny portal gun.

Gabe said in that interview that he organises an annual day out for his employees and their families (correct me if I’m wrong). I was wondering where they go and what they do.
And they didn’t make Alien Swarm in their free time, Gabe employed a mod team to develop their mod in Source and decided that making it free would be most beneficial.

Well, Portal 2 supposedly takes place hundreds of years after Portal 1, so I don’t think it’s going to tie into Ep3 canon.

They may still be waiting for feedback on Portal 2 features before announcing Ep3.

Maybe. I’m just throwing ideas around like everyone else.
If they’re planning new gameplay features for Ep3 they may want to look at how gamers respond to them in Portal 2 and adjust accordingly.
