The highest bidders in hl2 were the vorts and the resistance. Thats why they take gordon from the gman in ep1. Thats why eli seemed to know gordon was coming to his lab.
thts may take, i mean you see the gman having a meeting with a resistance member at the top of a builing through a teliscope, but where do we stand now. has a permanly escaped in ep2 or just for a short while from the vorts control?

If you look closely, when you can only see the silhouette of the Observer, it’s identical to the G-Man.

I think references to names and initials are out of the question. I’m sure plenty of you have read Raising the Bar, but for those who haven’t:
I find this quote most interesting because Valve have found it necessary to point out that he’s not referred to as the ‘G-Man’ in the Half-Life universe. This is highlighted by the fact that Eli refers to him as ‘our mutual friend’. I think it’s important to realize that we shouldn’t use his name as an indicator for anything, and I feel that Valve wouldn’t even mention this little blurb in the book if it wasn’t a relevant warning against confusion.
Again, this is most likely common knowledge to plenty of you, but I just posted it to try to stop all the name referencing theories dead in their tracks.
ok one i was jokeing around and because what ^ said i no longer belive G-man has anything to do with the initials of someone cause i just now got raising the bar and that quote is in it so he could just be some powerfull alien… and i didnt read alot of the posts here… whats this about the resistence being the highest bidder… did they pay g-man or something? Raising the Bar is awesome, you should be reading it anyways. I’m only on page 162 myself, but I started last night so I think that’s fair. It’s extremely interesting.
I’m glad we could convince you to drop the theories dealing with the initials. As for your other theory, it’s unclear whose side G-Man is on and therefore it’s unclear who can be identified as truly the highest bidder.

I’d rather think that it’s the G-Man playing all of his “Employers” against each other to further his own means. Collapse of the multiverse perhaps?
Considering his/it’s involvement in fabric of space-time rending experiments, it’s not altogether crazy to think that could be the goal.
It would be interesting to discover who facilitated the escape of Nihilanth, I suspect it was G-Man somehow, however perhaps we’ll never know (the questions to either).
I’m sticking with the “Gman is a god” theory. Hope we get just a glimpse of his abilities in Ep3, then a big picture in HL3.
