Nah, the whole Gordon from the Future shit seems too sketchy. I think it’s simpler than we all think. Valve would have to take like half an hour explaining that shit at the end of the series, if that were the case.
G-man is an inter-dimensional being of near god like power.
His only goal is to keep control of Xen. I’d go further into it but I’d be here all day and everyone would just try and pick it apart in the most annoyingly ignorant ways, intent with the idea he truly is human and is Gordons dad when he clearly isn’t either.
I wish I could get some of my posts from the old forums, I’d just paste that.
I think that the G-man just uses humanity to achieve his goals set by his “employers”. There is perhaps some limit to his supernatural abilities because he seems to guide Gordon through the game and make sure he can proceed and destroy the Combine. If he had massive power then he could achieve this himself.
^ This. He’s from (or working for) a third party race that stands to gain from the destabilization of the Combine. He orchestrated the Resonance Cascade in order to get the Combine’s attention and lure it onto Earth, and then used Gordon to destroy the Citadel, which would make the Combine overcommit to retaking Earth, allowing him to deal it a serious blow. He probably has some history with the Vorts which means they can limit his powers, and they seem to have messed up his original plan by stealing Gordon back from his influence. Since then, he’s been playing speed chess and turning the situation back to his (and/or his employers’) advantage. That’s my theory, anyway.
HL3 will either have to bring in a lot of new story elements to tie everything together or it won’t be the end of the series after all and we will end up with more questions than answers and have another cliff hanger type ending. Either way should be interesting.
Will we end up fighting against a new race, escaping the grasp of the g-man in the end or will he simply be done with what he had to achieve and be like ok bye lol. Personally I would rather have him turn out to be more evil than expected and have an epic boss fight at the end that somehow ties that all up. The end fight in HL2 is a bit of a letdown.
Maybe Gordon FreeMan. :]
There was a conspiracy going on between the Combine and some important people from the USA(Including government men). They were planning to get all the power of the world, and they needed Black Mesa to communicate with the Combine. But one of the BM employees, Breen, learned about that and wanted the power for himself. So he betrays the g-men and starts the invasion before, destroying everything. But one of the g-men survives(The G-man) and using his strange powers(because he wasn’t actually human) will kill Breen and all the Combines and save the world, but only for owning it for himself. So Freeman must kill G-Man in the last level of the game, and everything ends.
Lol.
The G-Man is the love child of Gordon and Alyx sent back into the past to prevent Judgement Day…or the Combine…or Androids/Cell…or whatever.

Yes, yes… this is how it really happened. HL3 is pointless now that we figured out the plot, that’s likely why there’s been none for half a decade.
That theory has been explicitly denied by the writers. Gordon is not G-Man. Period.
I see G-man as being an interdimensional being who takes different forms. He orchestrates everything, but is neither a friend or a foe of the player (as stated by VALVe I believe somewhere).
I think I have a pretty good understanding on his intentions, but not his identity now.
G-Man is part of a third party organisation that oversees the fate of Earth/other races and planets. G-Man recruits people who present strong survival fighting skills that can be used to his advantage. He puts some of them into stasis so that they can be used whenever he wants. (ie Freeman, Shepard…)
G-Man recruits Alyx Vance, Gordon Freeman, and others in an effort to overthrow the Combine rule of Earth as part of his own universal monopoly. I think that he is trying to send the Combine back to their Overworld, which would require Aperture Science’s teleport tech on the Borealis and also the control over Xen as a borderworld between dimensions (which he acquired with Freeman’s help.) He stops whoever gets in his way an that is the reason why Eli was killed, because he outright objected to use the Borealis and rather destroy it.
What happens next? Time (and HL3) will tell.
Makes sense, never thought of it that way… so G-man did let Eli die on purpose, I mean… he could save him or something :-/
the G-man is an ethereal, omnipotent, multi dimensional, possibly divine, highly conspiratorial video game plot device whose deliberate ambiguity in both intent and location keeps it relevant to the player regardless of the plot direction in the game. this ambiguity also leads to intense and fervent speculation on video game related Internet forums

God damn that actually might be it.

Yeah but the Combine killed Eli, and they’re supposed to be G-man enemies, right?
He can mess with humans’ heads, I wouldn’t be surprised if he can subtly influence the Advisors as well.
