FUCKING PROMETHEUS

I wish they kept it more vague, or at least focused on the visuals more than the story.

This is coming out here in Belgium & also France tomorrow. So be on the look-out for lots of reviews.

Here’s the review-list so far (regularly updated):
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1446714/board/thread/199682701

They mostly come mixed to positive… mostly

Btw I recommend you to stay out of the other imdb threads on Prometheus, they are a spoilerfest.

I stopped watching the trailers after they had the one which showed the Pilot. I don’t want to know anything more about it.

Unfortunately I live in Germany and films generally come out here 800 years after the rest of Europe, so we’ll be seeing it here some time in 2045.

Edit;

I just checked…9th of August it’s released in Germany. Jesus Christ! Slovenia gets it earlier. Romania gets it earlier! I bet even North Korea will get it earlier.

Ah well, I have to go to the UK for a wedding in a couple of weeks anyway, so I’ll watch it there.

On the upside, the US of A only gets it the 8th lol

I hope they pull a paranormal activity with the trailer.

By that I mean faked footage to mislead us about the plot

It’s not gonna happen but it would be a nice surprise

I find it really funny how you all are having this discussion about the movie and my spaceship in an old Sci-Fi MMORPG was named Prometheus.
Hmm.

They totally named it after yours, duuuuude.

Why have none of you seen this and reviewed it yet?

I’ll see it in a week, but so far I’ve seen only two facebook friends review it.
One said it was quite good (she’s a bit of a retard)
One said it was utterly shit (she is less of a retard)

:frowning: I don’t want my second friend to be right. :frowning:

From what I’ve heard, it’s amazing looking with a weak story.

Let’s be 100% honest. No Alien movie was ever praised for it’s gripping narrative.

And for some reason, looking good stylistically is a point against a movie if it’s got a weak story. Not being a complete fucking asshole about these things, I do not hold this belief.

Alien was a girl I always loved, but it wasn’t for her personality. I’m going to see this movie expecting to see awesome shit. So far, I’ve heard it does not disappoint in that regard.

The story of Alien isn’t bad, or weak. It’s just thin. There is nothing wrong with thin, so long as it can still support itself, which it does. It tells exactly the story that it has to tell. But we all know Alien isn’t about the story, it’s about the themes. The themes run deep in that movie. Themes of male rape, losing control, and feeling helpless in dire situations.

Also, Karamazov, I can’t review it until it is out in this country on Friday, and I won’t be seeing it until Saturday (if my friend is available to see it and not on a date). So I will review it then.

Alien was all about immersing the viewer into the experience and the story was only be there to make things happen.

Folks at something awful said something along the same lines - confusing plot, some underdeveloped ideas and a lot of inconsistency (which is however partly intentional and interestingly tied into the monster of the film), a great cast, particularly Michael Fassbender as David, and an new take on the themes of Alien, i.e. fear of normal sex as opposed to fear of rape and perversion. All in all it seems they liked it quite well, which is rare for them as they seem to hate everything.

Allright, I just got home from seeing it. I must say It was quite enjoyable. The environments were awesome and the 3D really added to the experience.
The story is ok, but not wow, but in that regard I agree with xalener, theegoatpig and maxey that the Alien movies were never about the story. However, there were no memorable characters in Prometheus, save David.
The music was good; the sound was really awesome.
All in all, this movie is not a classic, but highly enjoyable and entertaining.

I’d rate it a 8/10. If I’d seen it sooner before I lowered my expectations, it would have been 7/10.

I loved it. Great visuals, great adventure, great grotesqueries and gore, great acting. Especially from Rapace who is as hot as the girl that I went with.

Alien and Aliens are two of my holiest grails, perfect movies according to me. They’re not stupid, the characters are likeable, the dialogue and atmosphere is immersive and the tension is fantastic. Prometheus isn’t as good but it’s about fifty times better than the star wars prequels. If i have to whine about something, which I feel surprisingly disinclined to do, it would be the silly flutes and too much unraveling of the mystery.

New article with Damon Lindelof talking about the possibility of a sequel ‘Paradise’:

Saw it last night. Amazing.

Haha

PFFFFAHAHAHAHA

saw it. Not sure if didn’t answer enough questions or answered too many too fast. Maybe it just sidestepped all of the questions about the Jockeys I had and answered a bunch of questions I didn’t have. I guess I should have expected that from Damon Lindelof.

Well, either way I had a great time. A nicely paced beautiful film with incredible sound design. There wasn’t enough time to get to know many of the characters I think, but the movie was already two hours plus change.
