FUCKING PROMETHEUS

This movie was designed to appeal to a wider audience as opposed to just to the Alien fanboys, which is why reviews seem to be so divided. It was a good movie nonetheless, but I would of enjoyed it more if it had more horror elements in it like the Alien movies had. Unless a sequel to this movie provides a stronger attempt to tie things in with the Alien franchise, I feel we were a bit cheated as it seems they simply used the Alien theme to get people to come out and watch the movie; hardly to satisfy us fanboys.

Went to the premiere last night and got a FREE T-SHIRT!!! (also the movie was great.) I think the fact that the only t-shirt size they were giving out was XL speaks to the audience a movie like this generates.

Going to see it tomorrow, now not expecting as many Alien questions answered, so hopefully it’ll just be a great movie in the same universe that I enjoy without comparing it to the others.

I just got back from seeing it. It was enjoyable, but not what I expected. I didn’t read much on it, but knowing it was tied to the Alien movies, I expected more suspense.

I do like, though, how it blacktext [COLOR=‘Black’]shit all over AvP’s backstory. Aliens and Predators are officially separated again, by the original director. I suspect a shit storm is brewing.

Maybe it had less suspense because a lot of people today don’t really care as much about that stuff? I know a lot of people who say the first Alien is pretty boring in the first half, which might be true, but it makes it more interesting when shit goes down.

That’s the problem with the people of today, movies need to have stuff happen all the time or else it’s boring to them. They don’t have patience to immerse themselves in the experience and spirit of the movie because that would require them to have brain functions more developed than the average person.

If it’s not got explosions and implausible action scenes every 5 minutes then it’s boring.

I am almost as big an Alien/Aliens/Alien3 (Assembly Cut) fan as you are likely to find… I was only slightly disappointed that it did not bring a little more horror to the table. Other than that, it did indeed rock, and I basically loved it. But the music was completely forgetable imho. Nothing compared to soundtracks of 1-3. And the 3D only really stood out in those couple mind-boggling scenes - which you will know what I am talking about after seeing. To me, it was worth the extra just for those scenes. Do not expect Avatar type 3D.

As a side note: Ridley is legendary for his storyboarding… how is it that parts of this felt a little scattershot at times? Should we blame the editor? Mr. Lindelof?.. Those assholes Walter Hill & David Giler (were they meddling, like in Alien3)? Your thoughts?

Enjoy!

It definitely feels like it was cut down from a bigger film. Maybe it’s more test audience corruption.

Hopefully there’s an extended director’s cut. Maybe that will have the desired suspense and pacing.

Also, I quite liked the score :stuck_out_tongue:

Poor Riddley Scott never seems to have his movies properly edited for theatrical releases.

I loved the movie, although my family (who like Transformers and want to see Battleship) hated it for some reason and said they didn’t understand it :hmph: .

I was really satisfied with it though, even though it did leave a bunch of questions. Heard there’s going to be a sequel though, which is nice. I was hoping the movie would have been like 5 hours long though and showed what happened to the woman :stuck_out_tongue: .

Did they see any of the other movies?

Yeah, they saw the first Alien at least and probably the others. I wouldn’t say seeing those are required to understand the movie even then. They just like crappy movies but always make me seem like I’m the one that likes bad movies.

idk. I don’t think the last 45 minutes or Prometheus would make ANY sense without at least seeing Alien first.

Actually, I think a big issue of the movie is how not-standalone it is. It’s not an issue at all to me, but I can see how it can fuck with others.

I didn’t see how it’s not understandable.

SPOILERS

They wake the Engineer up, it freaks out and kills everyone and then starts the ship up to go destroy Earth. The humans in the other ship ram it to stop them, it crashes. The main character goes into the ejected pod and the Engineer follows her. She gets the tentacle thing to attack it, it impregnates it, and gives birth to some other thing while the main character and the android goes off to the Engineer’s home planet. Even if you haven’t seen Alien I wouldn’t imagine that anyone would not know what the new alien is.

I know, but that whole scene would be a lot harder to comprehend if you hadn’t seen the evolved facehugger doing work.

^ agree with xalener.

Also, whithout someone pondering what the fuck was with with the SJ and his chair (er driver’s seat) for the last 30 or so years, the profound impact of the SJ doing his thing before/during takeoff and the room’s transformation, is likely lost on ALL but us diehard alien freaks. For someone like myself, this is one of the most breathtaking (I never use that word) scenes I have ever seen. Period… To the uninitiated, I should think this is just a really kick-ass scene… and perhaps nothing more.

I’m not surprised. There are a few pieces missing to fully link this to Alien that I figured would have been in place. I would definitely see the sequel when it gets released.

I’m not really a huge fan of the Alien movies, but I did notice two very important things involving the SJ.

[COLOR=‘Black’]His chest wasn’t burst while in the pilot’s seat, and the Xenomorph that came out of him wasn’t a queen. Both of those lead me to believe that this moon isn’t where they went in Alien/where they set up the colony before Aliens.

Alien and Aliens take place on LV-426… Prometheus takes place on… I think it was something like LV-224 - they put the planets name in text on the (movie) screen as the Prometheus approaches it.

Ridley & Co obviously wanted to make the clear distinction… but I could see some folk being confused by this, provided they are thinking this IS where Alien/Aliens took place - or simply do not know the name of the planetoid in Alien/Aliens. Though, you would need to see Aliens (where it is first called LV-426) to know this, since it was an unnamed (and perhaps uncharted) planetoid in Alien.

Yeah, I thought it was the planet in Alien.

I thought more people would notice that the “moon” was called LV-223 when it popped up, and also LV-426 isn’t a moon.

Just saw it yesterday and I loved it, though It could have benefitted from some better development of the supporting cast.

Spoiler[COLOR=‘Black’]Charlize Theron’s performance in particular was kind of underwhelming, and it was

stupid how she didn’t think to run to the side of where it was falling instead of in the path like Shaw realized, especially since

Shaw litterally rolled a couple of feet to get out of the waySpoiler In Alien there was really more of an impact

when the crew members died, and some characters seemed to die since they had such a minimal role anyway Spoiler

[COLOR=‘Black’]Like those two guys making bets who decide to go down with the captain just because he’s a shit pilot - it

was literally like "We have to sacrifice ourself? OKAY SURE"Spoiler Other then that though I thought Shaw and

David’s character’s were very well done, and I loved the almost “childlike” curiosity in David.

Yeah I totally love that, IMO [COLOR=‘Black’]the AvP depiction of the Aliens is really dumb and just makes it seem like a poorly conceived backstory that some kids thought would be cool if it were true. I feel Prometheus really did a good job of making them seem a lot more sinister again

Also one of my favorite things about this movie was Spoiler[COLOR=‘Black’]How it actually had me thinking about the different lifeforms we saw. It was so cool realizing that those “Snake” like things evolved from those tiny worms they showed beforehand on the ground that were exposed to the liquidSpoiler
