I wouldn’t say “wiped out,” as that implies that we want to start another Holocaust. No, we need to get rid of religion our way: Education.
I never really realized how anti-religion you guys are. I mean, all my friends call me “The Atheist,” and I thought I was pretty nonreligious, but now I see all this shit, appalling shit, about how religion is an evil conspiracy, when it simply is not. And that whole “Religion is anti-science!” thing is bullshit. Many of the great scientists are religious.
I can’t come back to this thread. I seriously can’t. I’ve had enough of your ignorant banter.
you will be missed.
Actually, you really will, cause now I’ll have no one to argue with. :’(
Yes there are a handful of scientists who still believe in religion, but that handful is dwindling and the believe in religion simply because their parents ingrained it permanently into their minds, or in a few cases, it makes them feel secure about their life.
Ignorant? So us wanting to help mentally evolve our species is ignorant?
Religion IS anti-science. And it doesn’t even have a good reason to be. Science has theories with evidence to back said theories up or even conclude these theories. Religion is just “Here’s a Book. Believe it. Block out anyone who doesn’t.”
Pitiful.
Ah yes. Children really are the future afterall. If you can control the children, you control the world. Hitler knew this, and he built an army with this philosophy.
I have an idea, lets force feed evolution down people’s throats until they believe the truth!
…
oh wait…
The day I see a supernatural force do something important for humanity with my own eyes, I will start to believe.
But otherwise, all religion is some random bullshit invented by smart people to scare and control stupid people, and unfortunately, alot of people are still stupid enough to believe it.
Is it me or a lot of you guys thinks that religion = Christianism? There are a lot of religions who don’t claim to know everything, nor are anti-science. Buddhism anyone?
Buddhism is great. Especially how it can combine with any other religion. It’s basically you believe what you want to, and refine yourself.
Perhaps I should think of converting…
And not all Christians are anti science OR claim to know everything.
Catz, do you know everything, hate science think that the world is flat and shoot homosexuals?
but It’s just like saying : Not all christians practice their religion to the letter.
Hey I didn’t said this. It’s just that generally, the Church (with a big C) does not want to get along with new technologies.
and unfortunatly it would seem this way. atleast Catholics anyways.
and anglicans.
but there I go generalizing. haha
Conspiracy, perhaps not, evil, very debatable. Consider all of the wars you have been taught about and heard of. Now consider how many of them were caused in part or in full by religion. Now consider some of the greatest minds to have existed, Einstein, Newton, Locke, and Russell just to name a few. How many of them were persecuted, locked up, or suppressed by religion simply because they were thinking? Start asking a few questions like this and it is very easy to realize all the harm religion has done.
Beyond stopping progression and science for thousands of years it has been the ultimate fall back for people wishing to commit atrocities. You want us to kill all the Jews? Well if it is the Christian thing to do I guess we can. You want us to invade the Middle East because it is our Holy Land (note, this one has been used at least three times)? Okay, sounds good to me. More people have died for religion than any other cause, person, or idea throughout our history. I despise religion and everything it stands for because of the cruelty it has caused in the past and still causes today.
When I hear the pope is still condemning condoms in Africa or when I hear he is threatening to excommunicate all of Brazil from the Church if a 10 year old girl gets an abortion for the baby that was conceived from her father raping her, or when I hear that today the Jews of the Middle East killed another thousand Muslims it sickens me. It sickens me far worse than a pseudo religion screwing over five people seeking help for depression. Yes, Scientology is wrong and a perversion in so many ways, but so is the rest of religion.
Its an argument over whether or not an unprovable entity exists. This will be productive!
On topic, I know a lot of people with a religion, and they all condemn the atrocities that have been committed under the name of god. Religion today believes in evolution for the most part, that the earth revolves around the sun, etc.
One thing I cannot understand is why people make excuses for the bible. It is supposedly the word of god, but only when it is convenient to reality and other wise its metaphorical. Oh well.
Finaly, to the above, I get annoyed whenever anyone accuses the jews of massacring people. Every action Israel has taken against the terrorist muslims around them has been in self defense from the land hungry idiots. They are in no way at fault for the action of oppressive dictators that don’t like people that aren’t like them.
And I said I wasn’t coming back…peh
As I stated before, the problem the rest of the Middle East has with Israel isn’t totally about religion. It’s the fact that we, America, randomly plopped them down there without considering the fact that people were already living there. They want their homeland back, the Jews want a place to stay, it’s a conflict of interest.
And the Bible is disjointed in a lot of ways. For example, in the Old Testament, God was a vengeful being who ordered death upon plenty of people. In the New Testament, he was peaceful, kind, and forgiving. Perhaps it’s because it was written over a number of centuries and transcribed and interpreted by so many people.
Regardless of what America did the conflict is still over a “Holy Land”. Meh, on second consideration It is possible my disagreement is simply coming from a difference in opinion on the definition of the word “religion”. I define religion as large, mindless communities that condemn anyone who doesn’t think the way they do, not the individuals who have arrived upon these conclusions through whatever fear or motivation there may be. I use the term religion to define fanatics and (as I see them) mentally impaired individuals.
If the reference is simply to one who believes in God, then that is merely a sect. I would define these more open minded people as “spiritual” although I despise the word, I tend to respect these people enough to get along with them. My point has nothing to do with the individuals who believe in God so they don’t have to fear death, the ones who are okay with homosexuals and gender equality. My point is concerning what religion is, the term (as I see it) is an embodiment of the various books (Torah, Qura’n, Bible, etc) and the societies that have formed around them (Taliban, Vatican, Conservatives, etc). These societies brought about by these books are the ones influencing these other individuals to follow religion, they are the ones that caused the wars, not the random Christian or Jew you meet on the street. So, basically, I despise the books and the societies around them, not the people who believe in it (there are obvious exceptions). It is the same as hating a country, you don’t hate every single person in there you hate the head (government) and all the patriotic imbeciles who follow it blindly.
As for the Bible, it is a complete joke that I won’t even touch on. Anyone who looks at it for five minutes can find practically endless holes and flaws, even ignoring analysis for scientific conflict.
Also, while on the subject of going off topic with religion, I came to an interesting revelation and have yet to come up with a rebuttal. How can a religion like Christianity believe in both free will and fate? If everything is predestined, then doesn’t that mean our choices are made for us, voiding free will. If this is true and only one can exist, there are some major flaws in Christian ideology.
Pakistan kills 4 Isrealies, Isreal kills hundreds of pakistanis. Isreal is a close ally with America, which as history shows, puts it on the wrong side of the moral spectrum and the right side of the wealth spectrum. We (america) went into Iraq in search of nukes when our close ally Isreal has tons. And I agree with Winged One that you can’t pin problems in the middle east on religion. It’s liek in the CIvil War, the majority of Southerners weren’t fighting cause they wanted slavery, but because northerners were invading their Territory. (this does not mean that I side with the South in the Civil War)
Using a Family Guy episode’s “predictions” is really a retarded way to prove a point.
Where do you get this information? So far, most of your information has been based off of hearsay.
But on topic of this court case, guess who won again?
Alright, it seems that all that can be said for both sides has been said, now follows circles and insults so I’m going to leave now and hopefully not come back.
Winged One, I respect your religion’s peacefulness and lack of anti science sentiment that is found in many mainstream religions. I still find it wrong, but I can accept it as it seems it brings you comfort without clouding your vision.
shakes winged’s hand and walks out the door
Bahaha, you think I’m in any way religious?
I don’t believe a lick of what any mainstream religion teaches. But I do believe that religion should stay and that people should remain free to believe what they want. I may not believe it, but that doesn’t give me the right to say they are all wrong and are the reason for every bad thing that happens.
