French Court Convicts Scientologists of Fraud!

Forcing its views on others? How do I exactly have I forced my beliefs on anyone in this community? Cuz I thought I was rather conservative in how I present myself and that I have not MADE anyone believe the way I believe.

You know Christians never said to put creationism in the school textbooks and then prohibit teaching anything else. Christians simply want to make it one of the many topics regarding where we came from. I know I was never presented the “intelligent design” concept in school. My kids havn’t either and I have three of them. Yet heaven forbid I suggest that it should be made a part of the lesson as one possible theory cuz then it would be forcing my view on others. Right?

Forcing its views on others. I really love that comment. Cuz while I sit back and am quiet about what my views are, secularism is forcing its views on me and my children on a daily basis. Me and my family are put up for taunting, ridicule, disdain and mockery like you will never understand. Even here in this thread there is a type of mockery that quite frankly is rather insulting. Yet if I defend my beliefs, more of the same insulting comments are made. “cameras in the sky watching”? Sheesh you make it sound like God loving people are mindless. I could quote dozens of slanderous type comments in this thread alone that makes your “Forcing its views on others” comment stupid.

Just as you demand your right to teach your kids the basics of human love, compassion and understanding… just as you will teach your kids right from wrong, discretion and discernment… how to not play in the street and instead be careful of people you don’t know… I also demand the right to teach my children my beliefs.

Heaven forbid that someday someone came along and said “How dare you tell your kids not to play in the street! They should have the right to choose whether or not to do so!” You too would shake your head and facepalm it.

Do you mind posting some examples of that taunting, ridicule, disdain and mockery? I dont understand why american christians love to pretend they are an opressed minority while at the same time being an enormous majority with basically all of the power and money.

I could hug you, Catz.

Go back a few pages, you nutsack you.

I simply meant more extreme things like not letting gay people marry and such. Since most people who have the power for that type of thing aren’t even part of that “group”.

And you entered the thread when?

Also don’t group me with the lot that wants religion wiped clean off the map, I haven’t spewed much “hate” compared to anyone else here. And I never said you forced your views on anyone here I was saying that if a religion suddenly decides to pull a crusade against a group of people I’m definitely going to be pissed.

I’d like to see that.

Ohhh dammmmnnnn

Care to make a rebuttal, Catz?

Don’t mock cats, they’ll claw you’re eyes out.

I’m not. I want her to destroy him and the rest of the people what want religion swept from the board.

Who said I do?

The most I’ve said against it was “I wonder if we might be better off without it sometimes”. Whereas there are others who say much worse things.

The trouble is, creationism in all its forms (including intelligent design) isn’t science, and therefore shouldn’t be taught in science classes, just as you wouldn’t expect people to teach evolution in church, or poems in maths class. If people want their children to learn a religious viewpoint they should really teach it to them in a proper religious setting.

Regardless, I do think that the world would probably be a better place without religion, which isn’t to say I think religious people are bad or stupid, just that it tends to rely on belief without evidence, which can occasionally lead to irrational decisions, and it can also be used to justify things that would otherwise be difficult to make people swallow (although this can sometimes be replaced with extreme ideologies, such as Stalinism etc. so its removal wouldn’t change the world massively.)

I hope I don’t offend anyone; just giving my opinions!

ITT: argument over whose religion is more insane
topic lost long ago.

Or lack of religion.

Can none of you see how unbelievably ironic it is you saying that the world would be better off without theists cause some religious extremists say the world would be better off without atheists?

there’s going to be extremists on ALL sides.

it’s just that a proclaimed “christian”/“muslim” who goes and kills someone seems to always get more publicity than someone who’s an atheist that goes and kills someone.

I hope that this topic can die atleast somewhat peacefully. but if its not going to, I’m with catz and winged.

Unless the atheist played video games.

Sorry, fodder, but I’m going to keep it limping on:

If an individual person murders another individual person, then rather obviously their faith (or lack thereof) wouldn’t be the first thing to pop into the head of a rational person. There can be a multitude of reasons why a person commits murder. However, when - in rare cases - a murder is perpetrated with religious convictions being one of the primary motivations for committing the crime, it becomes quite clear why these garner more publicity than an Atheist committing a similar crime.

Many acts of murder performed by a religious individual are committed due to a twisted sense of morality. Let’s take the example of Paul Hill a man who was convicted and later executed over the shootings of an abortion specialist. Hill believed, truly, that he would be rewarded in Heaven - how can this not generate publicity? We’re talking about the same religion that millions believe in (without so much as harming another individual) and use as a guideline for leading a good life, yet here has been contorted into something evil!

On the other hand, an Atheist committing murder is unlikely to be under the same scrutiny because - as our hypothetical non-believing murderer has no faith - is judged entirely on his or her individual responsibility. I would never, ever leap to the side of a fellow Atheist to defend him murdering another man. I wouldn’t dare think of proclaiming that he was invoking the spirit of Darwinism by eliminating the weak or by doing ‘Nature’s Work’. Yet there are Christians who would (and did!) happily wade into Hill’s defence, twisting it into a moral debate over abortion - neatly sidestepping the fact that a human being had his head blown off!

Now. Let me set the record straight in case anyone construes this as being ‘offensive’. It’s not. I simply hold, quite close, the firm conviction that in cases such as the above (or John Ratzinger’s ridiculous pseudo-science bullshit about AIDS) that we, as human beings, need to step back and criticise religion when it gets things so catastrophically wrong.

And that’s why I like you, Robot.

I was just annoyed by the fact she misunderstood what I said. It’s one of my pet peeves.

My, my, what a depressing thread. Unsurprisingly, the people I expected to be tolerant and well thought in their views on religions were tolerant and had well thought view, and the people I expected to be reactionary twats were reactionary twats.

Like Sanfrod, I tend to only get militant when attacked first (although I shamefully admit this hasn’t always been the case) but you guys went off the fucking hook, and without provocation.

Seems like all the dicks that spoil the face of religion are moving on to spoil the face of atheism.

EDIT: Oh! Except Jack, of course. Sorry religious people, he’s still making you look bad.

Hahahahaha oh wow.
