on-topic: Actually if you look closely, there are some major graphic differences between CS:S and CS:GO apart from the new engine. If you don’t like it replace the models/textures and stop bitching.

I’m curious about how gameplay will be handled considering the console players will likely be destroyed by the PC players.

I play fortress forever regularly, I should fire up CS:S again and get back into gear with counter-strike, I’m quite a bit more rusty than when I was younger.

Go play Q3, QL, Fallout Classics, CS, HL1, etc etc, then whine about graphics. Gameplay comes first on Valve’s priority list (and should be on every other game dev’s).

What new engine, its still using source, but yeah, ist not a grammar mistake, so you wouldnt know what you talking about.

If we go by that logic, why update engines at all, lats all stay at quake engine, its runs well on any pc.

Because it’s called PROGRESS.
Our computers scale, and we don’t need to stay on quake engine.
Source has reasonable graphics, but can run on old computers fairly well, so stop crying.

Valve have always been about their customers. If designing an engine that can scale back to run efficiently on older computers will make their games more accessible to the majority of their customers, then that’s what they’re going to do. If it means that the graphics those engines are capable of aren’t photorealistic, then boo hoo go outside.

What I don’t think a lot of you realized this about this game but valve is in a fucked if ya do fucked if you don’t situation here.

Change a lot = Competive players complain (or at least comp players and every other pubstar who likes to think they are comp)

Change a little = Average players complaining

Awesome graphics = complain they shoulda spent more time on gameplay and you can’t run it well

Mediocre graphics = complain about bad graphics

And how about this.
Make an great but different game while keeping the feel of the old one, and make the graphics look great while still being able to run on old pcs.

There is an option to set the texture and model quality to low or high. And seeing how some modders make games 10x better looking in source than valve, says it can be done.
There is no reason to not include a Ultra option for those whose pc can handle it, except the obvious fact that the team thats making cs go sucks. They have no good modelers, and are barley able to make anything, valve is just getting cheap as fuck. They dont want to invest in better developers.

Easy man. Maybe I put it wrong way. The point was, that they make very succesful financial decisions recently and the only thing we see is more very succesful financial decisions. No new Half Life between / instead (which by the way, would be even better succesful financial decicion). That’s why I said I hope all of this money they get goes for development of something big they prepare for us. And I do believe it is HL.

I don’t complain about the prices. I just say that CS:GO is the easiest way possible to make more money and money only. It’s exactly the same product but with new name and cross-platform for console users. The game I always loved because of the community and mostly difficulity now became just money making bussines only. And I don’t really believe that playing with console players will be even close to a challange a had with PC users.

Thay should’ve left it as it was or wait and make CS2.

Don’t buy CS GO. just play CSS instead.

There are different versions of the source engine you dumbass, as I said get your facts straight. CS:S is running 07/09 I don’t know for sure as I haven’t played it in forever, but I’m almost positive that it’s running above its original 04.

Yes they’re all the same engine, but there are different code variations and that is what sets one version apart from another. They’re each separate engines in their own right, as the code from one engine may not work in another in perfect harmony. Check what Half-Life 2 was BEFORE they merged the engines, it looked a lot more choppy than it does now.

Compare Cry engine 2 to cry engine 3, the third one is practically the same one, and 3 should’ve been 2. There are code changes and they’re practically the same graphics one just looks quite a bit smoother than the other. It’s calling the tea kettle black.

They do the same with just about every program under the sun from simple ones to complex ones like Engines. They build on the existing code, so shut the fuck up on it. You don’t have any clue what you’re talking about.

Valve just stuck with the same name, but its come a long way from when half-life 2 was released.

Console players could get aim assist so they won’t constantly be owned by PC players.
