Should firearms be allowed for daily use? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Firearms don’t have a daily use unless you live in one hellish battle-torn war zone.
For normal people in peaceful, but still crime infested areas, a firearm can get them into more trouble than it would save people, as most people don’t train properly with their firearms, and wouldn’t have the where-with-all to draw and fire their weapon properly in a fight-or-flight situation. More than likely their gun will be found in the pocket/purse when the event is over, or worst case scenario, used against them by their assailant.
Sad truth about gun ownership is that most people probably shouldn’t own them, and if they do buy them, should keep them at home. I’m not saying they should be illegal or anything, but I don’t think idiots should buy them, and most people are idiots.
How about we invent targets that produce fake bullet holes when gunshots go off, and then replace all the bullets in the US with blanks?
