Finnish re-translation

Hello! Glad to hear about your effort. Here’s a threaddetailing translations, and there’s a separate forumwith people working on translations. There’s a few people discussing an improved Finnish translation, so feel free to join there!

First release, updated OP.

Good to hear, I’ll check out your version. There are indeed many mistakes in the original translation, so some improvements would be welcome.

Seems like you got “yhdyssanat” right.

Once again; if you want more feedback, help, and a chance to be included in the mod in an official patch, I encourage you to show your work here. Thank you!

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately I’m not looking to collaborate with anyone at the time. Having multiple translators always brings along problems with consistency, and I’d rather avoid that. Also the Finnish sub-section of the translation forums seems abandoned to me (a single four post thread with two members bickering over translation quality, whereas some other languages have hundreds of posts - not very reassuring). I get the feeling that I’ll reach more Finnish players through this thread in the main forums. I hope it’s not a problem?

In the end I’m not really that bothered with being included in the mod or not. If my translation is of sufficient quality, I figure people will patch it in themselves.

Karritz: Thanks! Let me know what you think. I’m sure there are still some lines that feel wonky.

I am not asking for you to work with other people; I am just saying that this way you can get more opinions and such. And, as I said, you can get a chance to be patched in there officially. But, in the end, it is as you wish.

Oh well, I don’t want to appear stubborn! :smiley:

I just cross-posted this thread in the international forums.

Thanks! I’ll be waiting to hear opinions on it. If people can guarantee it’s a good translation, I’ll get it patched in, and you credited :wink:

Looks much better now, good work. :slight_smile:

You did change the meaning of the “pony-tail” line for some reason, though.

Thanks a lot! I’ll be rolling out a second version this weekend. I’ve translated about one third of the NPC barks today, and after I’m done with those I’ll move back on to the event dialogue in the rest of the chapters. I’ve also further polished the first chapter, fixing typos and a few unnatural phrases.

Regarding the pony-tail line, the original is:

Which I captioned:

Now I’m not completely sure what you mean by changing the meaning. Are you referring to the “Aww man!” which used to be “Jätkä!” or “[Under breath]” becoming “[Kuiskaten]”? I’ll tag the line for re-evaluation either way, maybe I can make it better.

Leikkasit, as in “you cut it” was replaced with leikkaisit “you should cut it”.

There it was, staring at my face all this time and I never noticed that. Thanks! It’s fixed now.

Stay tuned for the next update, it’s great to have a another pair of eyes to look over the translation. I’m figuring I’ll release this weekend, when I’ve got all the “unscripted” NPC audio captioned. It’s funny how it actually makes up the bulk of the script. They really went all out with the idle chatter in this one :stuck_out_tongue:

Updated OP! I’m hoping to finish the first pass on the script early next week, after that it’s down to hunting typos and fine tuning :slight_smile:

Please provide feedback if you have the time!

EDIT: 0.6 is go. So very near of completing my first pass on the script! :slight_smile:

I’ll try replaying the game with your Finnish subtitles when I have the time.

Thanks a lot! At this rate I’ll probably have the full script done by tomorrow, so you might want to wait until that :slight_smile:

There are some typos here and there, such as
palauttaa being typo’d as palauttaaa,
Gordon as Gordo,
lopetamme as lopettamme,
‘sisäänrakennettua jätteenkäsittelyjärjestelmää’ as ‘sisäänrakennettua jätteenkäsittelyjärjestelmä’
‘superluminanssidiodit’ as ‘the superluminanssidiodit’

Other than those, the translation seems pretty solid.

Thanks!

It’s crazy. I just replayed Anomalous Materials a few minutes ago to look for typos, and while I found quite a few, I didn’t notice a single one of those. Goes to show how you become blind to your own mistakes.

I’ve fixed them all now, thanks again. I’ll update to 0.6.1 which corrects those and a plethora of other typos, and then the next release will be 0.7 with hopefully the full script translated. After that it’s all down to hunting typos…

Oh and I think that line with “Gordo” is actually supposed to be like that. Seems like there are a few Barney lines where they refer to Gordon playfully as “Gordo”. It’s a bit confusing though, and I agree that it might be better to still caption it as “Gordon” to avoid people mistaking it for a typo.

EDIT: 0.6.1 is up.

Okay, more typos coming up :
taidekriitikko typo’d as taidekriittikko
tappamaan = tappaaman
satelliitti = sateliitti (pops up a lot in different forms with a missing ‘l’)
illallissuunnitelmasi = illalissuunnitelmasi
viikkoa = viikoa
laboratorioiden = laboratorioden
hallinnassa = hallinassa
suolistaa = suolistaat
‘on mennyt’ = ‘on poleom mennyt’
jäätiin = jäätin
‘Kudit loppu! Suojaa minua!’ = ‘Kudit loppu! suojaa minua!’
taata = taatta
‘Vihollisia!’ = ‘Vihollista!’ (this one is a bit ambiguous)
No = Mp
‘Tämä paikka ei vain tunnu oikealta.’ = ‘Tämä paikka ei vain tunnu oikealle.’
Kaiken = KAiken
meneillään = menneillään
‘Katso tuon pedon kokoa!!’ = ‘Katson tuon pedon kokoa!!’
Typerryttävää = Typeryttävää
‘Voi luoja! Ei!’ = ‘Oh God! No!’ (these were between translated lines of text, you probably missed them)
‘Minun aivoillani ja sinun lihaksillasi’ = ‘Minun aivollani ja sinun lihaksillasi’

The “vo/c1a4d/SmithersSaga/sci03_lookforsmithers02.wav”,
“vo/npc/barneys/getgoingsoon06.wav”
lines haven’t been closed with quotes correctly.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it. I’ve fallen a bit behind on my schedule (i quietly uploaded 0.7 a few days ago, but it still lacks the last two chapters) but I’m hoping to pick up pace this weekend.

Keep 'em coming if you have the time!
