Favorite Half Life Series moments/chapters

I remember this from the deceased forum, and I really enjoyed people’s responses.

This is a thread about your favorite HL moments, from HL to HL2 ep2. It doesn’t matter what it is because it’s your opinion.

Mine are as follows:

Half Life-Riding the Tram in to Black Mesa. At that time I couldn’t believe how awesome the graphics looked!
HL Blue Shift-Seeing Gordon go by in the Tram in the beginning-it was like I was star-struck
HL OP4-Defeating the Pit Worm, the first time it took me forever to beat him!
HL2-When I first saw how real the water looked in Route Kanal, I was astonished at how the graphics improved
ep 1-The train ride out of the city was very cool to watch
ep 2-The ant lion fight with the Vorts and the two rebels (I forget their names!) I loved having an ant lion fly over head and blast it with the shotgun!

[COLOR=‘Red’]raw_bean EDIT: Merged with more recent threads asking for your favourite chapter from the Half-Life series.

Once again, with feeling:

H-L1: All encounters with the scientists (their scripts were great back in the day). Most particularly my favourite moment was the second Gargantua encounter in the parking garage. Pure awesome.
Blue Shift: Nothing really memorable about this one, but I felt they did Xen more justice (area design) than Half-Life did, but that’s pretty IIRC.
Opposing Force:Final Boss, it actually felt like an accomplishment to defeat this one, very unlike Nihilanth.
H-L2: Right at the beginning of Anticitizen 1 after the initial encounter with the Combine Soldiers where Dog thrashes them with the car, right after Dog lifts the fence the Dropship comes in and Dog annihilates the ship and the soldiers (you can see their bodies flying over the fence).
Ep1: Everything in the Citadel, I really enjoyed seeing more of it.
Ep2: First encounter with the Hunters, first encounter with Magnusson (and all the White Forest rebels) and of course the Battle for White Forest.

Whenever you find a new gun in Half-life 1 or OP4.

In HL2, under the bridge and supachaaaagin’ mah 'Field manipulatah!

In Ep1, dog throwing the Party Van back into the shitadel. And Zombie General hospital.

In Ep2, Tony Todd oing the Vortigaunts, the Antlion caves, sleeping Fast zombies, and of course Alyx getting out of my way for a while. Thanks, Hunter!

In order of me playing these games

half-life: On a rail, turn a corner, a rocket screams at you, i always forget it and duck at the last moment, i am like; shit shit shit and go in blazing, explosions and everything. so cool
blue shift; when the elevator drops at the beginning, i thought it was amazing scripted event
op4: seeing the physics on the ropes and electrified cable X_X
hl2 demo: seeing physics and the game run on my crappy pc
hl2: every sequence that happened was magic. everything so, so great. The moving wall is my favourite
lost coast: when going up the cliff, it was like HL1 again for me lol (my PC couldnt even do HDR!)
ep1: being thrown into the citidel and going on that ride
ep2: when the bridge collapses after the portal storm in the opening
decay: being under the test chamber whilst Gordon is in it, i thought that was genius. Only heard hell happening!
Uplink: Fighting through the hecu, the action got more and more intense in that demo.

Half Life: The first time seing the gargantua, love at first bite.
half Life op4: I was running along and a missile came right down on the soldier following me.Awesome.
Blue Shift: Seeing Gordon go by was like talking to god for me.
HL2: The amazing graphics and gameplay.
Hl2ep1:The awesome music in the hospital.
HL2ep2:HUNTERZ!!!

HL1 - The Tram Ride, at that time, I was drooling at the graphics. We’ve Got Hostiles, the first time battling with the HECU.
Blast Pit, killing the tentacle.
Surface Tension, just every bit of it.
And ofcourse, the teleporter in the final moments of Lambda Core.

HL2 - The first time seeing the Trainstation Plaza and the Citadel.
The Coast Maps.
Killing my first Strider!
Finally meeting up with Doctor Breen.

HL2EP1 + EP2 - The intro, seeing the destroyed Citadel.
Lowlife, but not for a good reason. :expressionless:
The destruction of the Citadel, in Exit 17
The Portal Storm and White Forest.

HL1- The tram ride really impressed me. It made me feel so much more immersed in Black Mesa.
The first time I saw a Gargantua slowly stalking towards me I shat my pants multiple times.
Opposing Force- Pit Worm
Blue Shift- … Sadly, I can’t think of anything.
HL2- Pretty much every time I saw G-Man lol
Black Mesa East reminded me of Black Mesa
Ep1- Being tossed into the Citadel by Dog was badass.
Ep2- The final battle with Striders and Hunters was too epic for words.

Half-Life: <3 Security Guards
Half-Life OpFor: Used to be Soldier allys until I learned how retarded the AI is, like when they shoot you for no reason, but I love the “Otis” security guards. I also like the scripted sequences while a Security Guard is with a scientist, an alien appears, and he goes “I CAN TAKE HIM!,” happens like twice, first time is sweet when the scientist gets teleported away.
Half-Life Blue Shift: I liked the beginning before the chaos, just looking through the complex, the monitors, the scientist, engineer, and Security Guard working on the computer, that stuff.
Half-Life 2: The Follow Freeman chapter, and the others with Rebel squads.
Half-Life 2: Episode 1: Probably the Hospital.
Half-Life 2: Episode 2: Definately the last battle with the striders and the magnussons. Loved all the Rebel bases and restocks, it was all good fun.

Uplink: I like the entire game. It is, after all, very short. I don’t know why I can’t stop playing the little thing.
HL1- Surface Tension. I loved the vertigo I felt while shooting my way through the canyons and cliffs - I was actually afraid of falling. It was strangely immersing and really fun.
Opposing Force - The biosphere chambers thterrariums used to house Xen fauna. I hated the Tentacles, though. Thanks to Blast Pit, I despise those things with a burning passion.
Blue Shift- Probably the part at the beginning where we get to see a well-meaning but useless guard trying to help some scientists fix a broken computer. I don’t know why, but I love it when he says “I… Can’t really tell”.
HL2 - Oh man, getting the hell out of Ravenholm. I HATED that place. After leaving the tunnel (which was accomplished by staying away from the little zombie-squishing cart), seeing the light was an actual relief. And I got the pulse rifle some time afterwards, one of my favorite weapons in the game.
Ep1- Exit 17. RPG’ing the Strider was endless fun.
Ep2- Under the Radar, specifically climbing onto the back of a truck with an infinite grenade cache then up onto the roof, chucking grenades through the windows at the Combine inside until I got bored. It was so easy, yet I felt like a coward, attacking in such a way, with no face-to-face contact. Oh well. I haven’t finished playing Ep2, so maybe I’ll find a better part later.

HL1 - Getting all your weapons taken away in the middle of the game and having to get them all back
HL2 - Follow Freeman chapter, having to fight from the building as its being torn apart by striders and the blue gravity gun
HL2EP1 - getting to use the blue gravity gun again and riding off on the train as all is going to hell around you
HL2EP2 - antlion battle, cat and mouse with the antlion guard, and the end battle was epic

HL1: The whole intro sequence was top-notch, from the tram ride to the resonance cascade.
BS: The intro is pretty good, and at the end when you’re randomly teleporting and you see an unconscious Gordon being dragged by two HECU soldiers.
Op4: Barnacle grappling hook. Wee!
HL2: The whole game was fantastic, but the intro really stuck out to me. Valve seems to always do a good job with intros. Getting the gravity gun was also awesome.
Ep1: Falling through the citadel in that old busted-up van, and the sequences with Barney.
Ep2: The strider showdown, and the ending of the game.

HL1: Satisfaction at pressing the fire button and watching the tentacles burn in Blast Pit

HL2: Starting sequence and pretty much the whole game

Ep1: Again the starting sequence was great, and train ride out of the city

Ep2: Tension in run up to and Encounter with the first advisor, pure awesome and scared the shit out of me lol

HL1:Xen, and spawning a ton of scientists and playing ten-pin bowling against them with a grenade. Strike!
HL2: Despite the incredible anti-climactic ending, I was sort of shocked when the reactor suddenly blew and time started slowing down, but then again it’s Half Life, so I expected it.
EP1:The Zombine joke. If there was a friendly fire option, I would have bashed her head in with a crowbar.
DeathMatch: Spawning Alyx and bashing her head in with a crowbar :stuck_out_tongue:

The Blast Pit, when you kill the monster.
In Forget about Freeman when the Gargantua comes out of the garage and gets instantly blown up by the F16s.
Whenever there’s a huge hoard of soldiers and you have to be sneaky to get them with the crowbar cause you don’t have ammo.
going into Xen.
The Gman scene.

the horrible timing with the voices lol. “Have you seen my… coffee cup?” 15 seconds later, “I wouldn’t even venture a guess.”

Scientist Soundboard

Half-life: Joy of beating the assasins first time round, and then followed by the horror of waking up in a garbage crusher with none of the hard earned weapons.
Opposing force: loved fighting with a whole squad behind you, kicking arse. That and fighting those big creatures in the dark seweres.
Blue Shift: The intro section full of nice little moments like being moaned at by scientist for being late.
Half-life 2: I really liked the whole bridge section
Half-life 2-ep1: When alex did her zomie imprsesson
Half-life 2-ep2: sending that dam lamar into space, that and clearing out the old misile silo

Jesus I hated all those sewer monsters! I had to use notarget. But I loved using no target because then you could kill 'em without them even knowing it.

when eli tells gordon to start reproducing with alyx xD

Yeah, but it woulda been better if he really let you. Damn ESRB!

Blowing up the copter in Decay using a shotgun. I thought I had to.

evil grin

Or are we only talking Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Half-Life Episodes?
If so, can’t say at the moment.

I did a barrel-roll with the airboat. Epic music, bombs everywhere, CPs spraying bullets everywhere, and I go flying upside down through it all. :jizz:
