Fallout: New Vegas

Imagine if The Fallout universe stopped in the 80’s instead. Good god, just thinking about that makes my eyes hurt.
It would just be a wasteland of techno muzak and faded day-glo.

Otherwise a complete mess.

A completely AWESOME mess. But a mess nonetheless.
Also, holy Shit guyz, new info in OXM

Well, not exactly new, but in an exciting new flavour.

Fallout 3 sucks. I don’t really know how to explain but the game just feels so slow. Interaction, movement, everything. Plus that combat targeting system sucked, so did their graphics. Bethesda sucks at game engines. Oblivion was the same way, just felt slow.

Fallout 3 didn’t suck. Yes, it was slow, but it was a good game nonetheless. Have you ever played the originals? They were slow as hell. They were fun, but they were VERY tedious to me. But still fun. If you’d played the originals (not choosing favorites here), you would’ve loved Fallout 3 because of the speed difference.

I don’t mean slow as in the game progresses slow. I mean the game itself feels sluggish. Oblivion was exactly the same.

It wasn’t due to low FPS either, Bethesda’s engine for Oblivion and FO3 are just sluggish heaps.

If it’s not low FPS, and not slow game progression, than what exactly do you mean by slow? I’m not bashing, I just really wanna figure out.

It feels slow. I don’t really know how to explain it. Other games are fluid and smooth, FO3 is not.

I know what you mean. Compared to games like HL or UT the player movement in Bathesda games has always felt slower, almost like you’re wading through water and not just walking.

Yeah it sucks. I can’t stand it. I really like the whole post apocalyptic thing but every time I try to play it that sluggishness kills it for me.

we get it already trance, you hate fallout Because the player moves slower than a frozen jar of molasses.

I think the combat was slow, personally. VATS makes it pretty much turn-based, minus the strategy.

Hmm, let me see.
Fallout 1. Turn Based Combat.
Fallout 2. Turn Based Combat.
Fallout Tactics. Real Time or Turn Based Combat.

Bethesda would have been insane not to include some form of turn based combat as a nod to all the Fallout fans from way back. But they gave you the choice. I played F3 using both the VATS and just real time combat. Was fine. The game is a first person RPG and not just a straight shooter.

The movement reminded me much more of games like Battlefield Vietnam where they were going for a sense of realism over fast run and gun.

Turn based is crap.

Must admit VATS wasnt good… real time it was AWESOME! top game I played all the DLC too…

i must say , the slugishness of the game was very irritable and also the fact that they didnt make animations for the player to climb over rocks or other objects and just left it jumping over them which felt really unnatural , and also that you sometimes “piled” up a few actions for the character to execute and you had to wait to bring up your pip-boy if you wanted to change something , that was really aggravating

^this^
I love fallout 3. Yes, it has glitches, but that’s why we have mods.
I’m torn over whether to buy the earlier fallouts. They look good, but it’s all point and click. Whats worse is that it’s forced third-person.

Unless it’s crucial (as in prototype or just cause 2) I will not buy a game with third person. It just ruins it.

On the other hand, new vegas looks incredible. Can’t wait to get it.

well , if you loved Fallout 3 , then you’d love New Vegas , after all - it IS built with essentially the same engine

It has a machine gun grenade launcher.
Nuff said.

isn’t that basically like the incinerator from Fallout 3 but instead it just fires grenades and not balls of a partially unlit mix of napalm and other petrol based liquid ?
