Extraterrestrial life: do you believe?

That’s not what I meant, tbh.

I believe that aliens not only exist, but that they have visited Earth in the past, influenced our development, and continue to visit Earth until such a time as we are advanced enough to initiate first contact. On the subject of aliens, does anyone else get an uneasy feeling when they look at a picture of a Grey? I’ve always gotten an uneasy feeling when I see a picture of one, and I have no idea why.

Corollary to Uncanny Valley? The same type of feeling when you look at ‘realistic’ robots from Japan?

For example:

So-called “Greys” come from the mind of H.G. Wells.

The robot doesn’t make me feel uneasy actually. I’m indifferent when it comes to humanoid robots, but for some reason Greys are just really disturbing to me.

Riiight. They travel all those distances to somehow ‘influence’ our development. You’d expect for such an advanced race to be capable of creating complex life forms without requiring 3.7 BILLION YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT.

DO NOT QUESTION WHAT YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND

I HAVE NO FEAR

It could have been done as a long term experiment. Besides, human evolution didn’t take 3.7 billion years. I never said that they created all life on Earth, did I? According to experts who have far more credentials than you, human ancestors began to look like us about 2-3 million years ago, and we became intelligent about 100-250 thousand years ago. Look at all we have accomplished in that short time. Other species that have something in the way of intelligence are still flinging crap at each other and have barely mastered the few tools that they have invented. We have already set foot on our moon and are planning to set foot on Mars within the decade. If we have been around as long as all the other primates, how come we suddenly evolved faster than them? Genetic fluctuations and standard evolution can’t account for that sudden jump from crap flinger to civilization builder. We are starting to find tools and settlements that are older than the Fertile Crescent civilizations, which were considered to be the oldest.

wat

Evolution isn’t a process that invariably makes species more intelligent. Crocodiles have been around since before the dinosaurs died out, so by that logic they should be incredibly intelligent.

You’re talking about millions of years as if they pass within weeks…

There’s no evidence to back up your claims.

Why are there still normal M&M’s when there’s also M&M’s with peanuts or crunchy ones?

Why should other species become more intelligent if they managed to survive for such a long time without it?

yeah. intelligence is humanity’s only natural defense, we actually NEED it to survive as a species.

only a word,yep.

And jellyfish would be so intelligent that they’re gods.

:3

I rather think that our intelligence was crucial to survive the ice age which started around 115000 years ago and ended 11000 years ago, now it’s just a relic of the past. The change of climate triggered our evolution - only those who could quickly adapt to new environment have survived. If our less intelligent predecessors lived in present times probably they would survive without any problems.

Face it, if we’d be too dumb to use weapons, we’d be fucking dead. Try sending a mentally challenged guy naked into the woods.
[COLOR=‘Black’]Disclaimer: If you do have a mentally challenged guy at your disposal, please do not take my challenge seriously.

Try sending a polar bear to a desert or a rhino to Amazon rainforest. If you randomly pick an environment what do you expect? Mentally challenged guy isn’t a good example anyway, somebody would have to learn him how to collect food and avoid predators (providing that he is capable of learning such things).

Fair enough. Please suggest a suitable environment.

But that would imply the subject needs to be intelligent.
