Execution Vs. Life Imprisonment

Ok, let me give you a scenario. You are in your room upstairs and you hear a loud crash of glass breaking downstairs and then your wife or children screaming, you run downstairs and you see 2 men in your house with baseball bats over your wife. So you…decide to face them head on in the hopes on knocking both of them out, or wounding them so they can’t fight back? Ok, great idea man. If I saw that, I would sprint to where I had my gun hidden in my house, and shoot both of them dead on the spot. The chance of them hurting your family is too great to risk trying to incapacitate them.

Looks easy in the movies doesn’t it?

What does that even mean? Is that a legitimate reply or a joke? What would you do?

You think you know how it would go, but you don’t. If something like that really happened, adrenaline, anger and fear of death for you or your loved ones would take you over. Only those who have been trained to deal with such situations know how to properly deal with it. You make it sound as if you could just storm downstairs while shouting Schwarzenegger quotes, kicking the door in and get a double headshot for extra points.

So because I haven’t recieved “high stress situation training”, I would be unable to control my actions and would either end up getting myself killed or fleeing for my life like a coward? Ok. You win, my bad bro, I guess I just thought I was too badass for training.

yeah, somehow i highly doubt you’d “shoot both of them dead”. plus, you might actually get in trouble for killing them if they were only armed with baseball bats, depending on where you live. you aim to INCAPACITATE. you do not aim to kill. how is this difficult for you to understand?

saying “self defense!11!1” is not an excuse for killing a person with all the ways to get around it. i’m sure a non lethal shot would bring someone to the ground as well.
has your house ever been broken into? generally, a big scene isn’t made. you likely won’t even know until you’re awake.
have you ever even SEEN a gun in real life? you seem like a 14 year old kid who’s watched one too many action movies and thinks he’s invincible.

Lol. No, I only have my nerf gun but it almost killed me once. I wouldn’t take any chances, if these men were armed and wanted to harm my family and I, I wouldn’t allow them to have a second chance.

maybe you should try it, remove yourself from society so maybe humanity can have just that much more of a chance.

I’m already removed from society enough =)

Let me take Burbinator’s side in this discussion and say I’m against death penalty. I think at least it is way overused in the US. Many times it is used buy prosecutors as means to “look good” before the population!

People want death penalty for the criminals because they want revenge, but revenge is not and should not be the objective of justice! The objective of justice is to prevent crimes, either for fear of prision or punishment or by keeping the criminals in jail, where they can’t commit crimes, and to rehabilitate criminals whenever possible. It is more desirable a criminal that changes his life than another that gets killed.

If I may quote Mahatma Gandhi, “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.” With rage you are not able to think rationaly anymore. Justified or not, it makes you a more violent person.

If they are trespassing in your house you can kill them. No matter what. And yes I have seen a gun. I own multiple guns and I go and shoot my guns at least every weekend.

that’s nice and all but i’m 99% sure i wasn’t asking you and don’t care about your experience with guns. and like i said, depends on where you live.

I don’t want the death penalty for revenge, I want it because that is what the people who receive it deserve, criminals would rather have life in prison then die. I remember watching a show about prisons where they mentioned how many murderers fled the USA to Mexico so they would receive the life sentence there rather then the death penalty in the US.

many criminals who face life in prison beg for the death penalty, because the death penalty is a complete and permanent avoidance of any punishment.

So we should have them sit in prison as a dead weight, so we have to pay money for their 3 meals a day for decades in taxes? Or should we have them dealt with immediately? For me, the second in the obvious choice.

That’s just big talk, you have no idea what would happen. Naturally you WILL get an adrenaline rush, you will have stress and yes this will influence your behaviour and ability to asses the situation. Ever been in a fight? Ever wondered why people shake when they’re scared shitless? Then you know what the adrenaline does.

Yes adrenaline affects you, but that doesn’t mean you lack control over your actions.

i LOVE this argument, especially since it’s been posted on just about every page that the death penalty is multiple times more expensive than putting someone in prison for life.

People should always get what they deserve.

and they deserve punishment, not the lack of punishment that is the death penalty. you’re not understanding, you can’t punish someone when they’re dead. you let them off the hook.
