“People should always get what they deserve.”
And who is the judge of that, you?
“People should always get what they deserve.”
And who is the judge of that, you?
Yeah, I am the judge of that. This is a debating forum where you voice your opinion, did you know that?
so you have the right to decide who lives and dies? riiight, okay. you keep on thinking that. that kind of complex is gonna get you far!
I never said that, I said that people should always get what they deserve, not “People should always get what I believe they should.”
so you believe people deserve avoiding punishment. why not just let them free then?
I’m not an Athiest, nor am I very religious at all. I believe that people will be judged accordingly due to the ways they lived though, whether it is by God, or something else entirely.
well, prove it. if you can’t prove they’re being punished, then is it really worth the risk? with life in prison, you can see them being punished. there is no doubt in your mind. aside from the whole right to life thing, that’s the main reason for me supporting life imprisonment. i know for sure something is being done.
Ok I’ll just go ahead and prove that God and other all-powerful beings are real. Oh wait, I can’t. There’s not proof of sentient extraterrestrials but I’ll be that most of the people on this forum believe in them.
okay people should get what they deserve… But answer this:
Who decides what they deserve?
EDIT: Nevermind ninjad by Jeannotvb
exactly. you can’t prove it. that’s my point. it may happen, it may not. why take that risk when there’s something 100% proven? plus, if hell exists, wouldn’t that be added on to the life imprisonment?
also statistics are in favor extraterrestrial life but i’m sure you know that and it’s not really to be discussed here.
I’d like to say the law, as that is part of what it’s purpose is in my eyes, but it fails to give people what they deserve more often then not.
And Fancy, if Hell does exist, a plane flight there would be a lot worse then going on a sailboat to reach it.
but you can’t prove it does. and that’s the whole thing. why not make them dread it and suffer along the way?
The suffering there would be unimaginably worse then what they received in prison, I believe in Heaven and Hell and that helps me dictate my decision.
but that comes back to the not being able to prove it happens thing, and how it’s better to punish someone in a way you can see. why won’t you address that?
I do address it, but I believe with a 100 % certainty that Heaven and Hell do exist, so why would that matter to me? To the criminals who thought they’d be getting out of a life sentence, they would receive quite a surprise on the other side.
I don’t want this to turn into a religious debate, I’m not very religious anyways, and we already have about 5 threads already addressing that topic.
you BELIEVE with 100% certainty, but you can’t PROVE with 100% certainty. i personally don’t believe in “the other side”. church and state are separated for a reason. the point is to give them punishment in this life, not assume there’s something after it that does it for you.
You know what, OK then. I feel very strongly about crimes people commit, and for murder, if I can’t give people the death penalty, I would both mentally and physically torture them until the end of their lives, the torture they received wouldn’t even be able to be compared to what they felt in Hell after they died. Are you happy now?
you’re religious, and you believe torture is justified? what makes that justifiable in your mind, and what makes you think god would forgive you for doing what would be his job?
genuine questions btw. i’m really curious.
That’s not justice, that’s just to satisfy your personal need for revenge.
I’m not very religious, I don’t go to church, I haven’t read the Bible, I didn’t go to Catholic school. My parents were Catholic and Protestant but that doesn’t mean I follow their beliefs. I think that if you give to people what they deserve, you aren’t doing wrong, you’re carrying out the will of God. And no I don’t mean go crazy Inquisition style just so you know.
Revenge? Are you serious? You’ve posted a few times where I don’t even know where to start with my replies. If someone killed a child, they would either deserve to die or live the rest of their life in agony and pain. It’s not revenge, it is justice. If you take the life of someone who didn’t deserve it, you deserve to lose yours for you actions.
