Execution Vs. Life Imprisonment

I don’t support capital punishment but prison conditions need to be much worse, I’ve seen prison food and it’s alot better than what I had for school dinners just last year.

i like how so many of you think mistreatment justifies mistreatment

but omg eye for an eye this is the 1600s where ethics and human rights mean nothing why would we avoid stooping to their level when we can just kill them and torture them god why don’t smart people think of this stuff duhhhh!!1

An eye for an eye just makes everyone blind.

Then again… I think folks that do certain crimes against children should be taken out and shot the next day.

Just my small opinion.

:awesome:

Kind of a tricky subject. I kind of think many of the arguments based on “revenge” are kind of going in the wrong direction. One thing I learned back in high school; revenge is met with revenge. One guy hits someone, they hit back. One guy burns down someone’s house, the other rapes his wife. One guy kills the other guy, and his son comes back with a sledgehammer and murders him. Sure, you can go off some assumptions when someone doesn’t have a son (or anyone who would care about their death) and say killing them is okay. You’re still missing what is a much more fitting punishment; finding some way of introducing guilt to them: Making them understand how horrible they are and how much the world hates them. Capital punishment, to me, is sort of a way of saying “Well, we have no idea what on earth could possibly make you fit for society, so we’re going to remove you from the gene pool.”

Then maybe school food quality ought to be improved, rather than prison food quality be reduced?

Thunderdome. Two men enter, one man leaves.

Neither.

Death penalty is unfair. You can’t just terminate someone because they kill people unless you give them a fair fight, gladiator style.

Life in prison is also unfair. You cannot strip a person of luxury just because they kill people, especially if they didn’t mean to. There’s a man serving a life sentence because he drove drunk and killed some people. He didn’t set out to kill anyone. He’s a victim of circumstance.

I’d rather the world operated on a Running Man/Thunderdome/Death Race 2000 system instead of this jail bullshit.

A circumstance that he created.

A circumstance nonetheless

If you are dumb enough to drive while drunk, and then kill people, you are guilty of killing them . You didn’t set out to kill them, but you did nevertheless.

I can see where I’m supposed to find your point. Try disregarding standard ethics and you may see how locking a person up for murder least fowl is just plain silly.

Yeah. Obviously the pacifist office worker whose daughter was raped and killed by a heavily traumatized ex-GI stands much of a chance in getting his revenge in such a situation. Justice will definetly be done, right?

I would go with George Carlin on this one. Just evacuate a small state, preferrably surrounded by desert, or a large island without any means of transportation on it, secure it from all sides and put all your criminals on there, without food supplies or medical care or anything else but their bare hands . And then film them with drone cameras and use the footage in a reality tv show, financing the whole project. You can even run bets online and on television on which group will survive the next hostile encounter. I bet the income would even be large enough to not only finance the whole project, but also balance the state budget.

You could even use the area as military training grounds. You’d have hundreds of thousands of live opponents for your soldiers. Of course, you’d have to prepare all military grade equipment the training troops would carry with self-destruction devices in case of fatal mission failure, but you still would have a very good playground for your military which could even make starting wars with other nations overseas just for the heck of it obsolete.

Why don’t you all go to the Iran (to the persons who say execution is good)
Iran has all the rules you want. Why don’t you go there and live there. It should be a very good place according to you. Seriously Do it.
There is no afterlife. Every life is very precious. Even if it belongs to a serialkiller. He still deserves to live I don’t care what you do to him but killing people you have under your control is bad, no matter what.

You should be executed for that statement in your signature

Wss just about to say the same thing. If it were up to me just dump them on an island, not because I personally care about who they’ve affected or what they’ve done but because it’s a lot less bothersome, not to mention entertaining.

Australia anyone?

I think we can all agree that the whole Australia thing was atrocious.

I know, man. It was horrible that they didn’t have the capability for space travel when the idea was put into action, and now we’re afraid to try it again.
