Where? D:
Science is kind of always going to have this unexplained sector. Kind of like the little kid asking “but why is THAT?”, even science’s explanations for something, in turn, have to have explanations. A ginormous explosion formed the universe? Great. What caused the explosion? It’s a cycle from quintillions of years ago? Great. What caused that?
Eventually, you kind of have to throw up your hands and decide that something more supreme put EVERYTHING into motion. Maybe it was a big guy in a robe, maybe it was some non-sentient machine. Either way, I’m fine with calling that God.
Doesn’t necessarily mean I believe in creationism, but it’s still entirely possible that this “God” planned every last thing out. Science sometimes does have to admit that the formation of life kind of involved a lot of neat coincidences. The existence of Earth, for one.

The percentage of population believing in a god seems to be very low, but a lot of people still believe in spirits or some source of life force, which makes true atheists still the minority.
EDIT: :ninja:'d, but my post has a few more information anyway.
it was thinly veiled rage and resentment though, i’m surprised it made any sense at all
You obviously do not know what the ‘big bang’ is. You explain extremelly poorly what it is and then say it needs and explanation so it means it doesnt make sense and then you say ‘God’ set everything in motion… when you need an explanation for god… I’m not going to teach you in this post, but when you’re talking about something you obviously don’t understand… like the coincidence of Earth existing (when there are about 200 billion planets in our galaxy let alone universe), simply, physics formed Earth.
And what put god there? And “He just always was” is a shitty answer. that’s not even TRYING. at least there are theories about how the big bang happened, none of which require some ~all powerful~ douchebag in a robe to work. science is trying to explain things, instead of fucking religious idiots who just say “LOL I DONT WANT TO THINK I’LL JUST ACCEPT THAT IT WAS ALWAYS THERE THINKUN IS HARD”
you can’t add another why to a series of whys and say WELP PROBLEM SOLVED
the world is in fact irregular.
it can be flat and dry, it can be liquid and splashy
and it can be rough with its knurled crags and dunes.
a nomad sphere in a perennial exhibit of collared fen fires.
The “what started it” argument doesn’t work. What started God (or the ‘generic supreme being’)?
More than 10% surely, if you said it was over half.
that’s the best kind
I have to admit, this is one of the most ignorant things I have ever heard. You sir, give atheists a bad name.
Christians don’t deny evolution, dumbass.
lol the vast majority of them do
Ha, look at what I’ve just found using links from wikipedia: Christian Atheism. There is also a blog. Sounds neat
I couldn’t agree more with this. It makes me rage when I see someone discuss the validity of evolution, or something on TV debating on if “alternatives” to the theory of evolution should be taught in school, or if evolution itself should be taught at all (!). People keep treating it like it’s some disputed underdeveloped scientific theory while it’s one of the most solid, backed with empiric evidence and widely-accepted theories in history.
Denying the existence of evolution is like denying gravity, but hey, these people believe some guy could walk on water, so I guess they’re used to that kind of stuff.
Also I envy whoever said they can’t remember the last time they were involved in a discussion about religion and that it doesn’t play a big role in their society. Try living in a country where 90% of the people are Christians (with a good chunk of those in the “hardcore” category, to the point of doing mass rituals and shit)… it fucking sucks.
Source?
That was me as well, I live in the Netherlands. I think the most important thing is that religion and state are seperated. There are still political parties whom govern our country using Christian morals, but they would never say something like “we shouldn’t teach evolution in school”. If they did, they’d probably lose most of their support and be laughed at. Everyone here has the right to follow their own beliefs, I think most people keep it to themselves. Like I said I never talk about religion or god with anyone, nor am I approached by anyone to talk about the subject.
We still have some religious schools, however they get shut down by the government if the results from the students are unacceptable (the government funds these schools in the first place). The last thing they want is a generation of children without any proper education that ended up only costing millions.
The only hardcore Christians I see nowadays are my entire family, but they think I’m still a Christian so I don’t get involved into religion discussions My parents were disappointed at me when I stopped attending Masses, but now they don’t talk about it anymore.
But I’m in a delicate situation. Once someone in my family knows I’m an atheist, I might end up turning literally dozens of people against me. That is why I intend to keep the situation the way it is as long as I can
The next big problem will be getting married :fffuuu: which won’t happen anytime soon.
Do we have to post this everytime?
Also, Your logic fails after some point. I ask you now, What created God? How?
Yeah Science’s answer isn’t very perfect but atleast it makes sense and it has logical proof.
This is the reason why we have science. It keeps improving, the idea of someone planned all of this doesn’t.
No no no! Try living in a muslim country. Then the Christian country will feel like heaven.
:fffuuu:
I’ve read in wikipedia that atheists have even less rights than Christian and Jewish people (e.g. they can’t study in universities) in some Muslim countries. Is this your case?
Leaving Islam is sentenced by death in some countries (correct if wrong).
